........ I was grazing the MBCA all-state teams and noticed that
the class 2 coach of the year is NOT Pat Connaway from state champ
Van-Far...
Us see, he took an unranked team all the way to the final-four and
won the class 2 state championship and finished the season 29-3 and
not coach of the year..?~!
Could someone explain that to me, please..

If I recall correctly, MBCA Coach of the Year goes to the highest placing coach who is a member of the association. I'd say he isn't an MBCA member.

That CAN NOT be correct about not paying his dues! If it is, there is a Van Far player on the all-state roster that should not be there! Again, I am sure coach loves the state TEAM title over the INDIVIDUAL Coach of the Year award though.

Players can be all-state if their coach is not a member of the MBCA, but the coach of the year goes to a coach who is a member.

Football coaches have the rule that if a coach isn't a member, his players are ineligible for both all-district and all-state.

Mr Cole....wise sage of the North.....it is as has been said.....players can make the team regardless but the coach must be a member to be COY.

and we generally don't compare the 2 coaching ranks....
seems a bit harsh to punish the kids for lack of action by the adults
perhaps the football coaches should loosen their chin straps a tad?

First, it's Preston, or PCole, not Mr. Cole. And yes, the FB coaches need to loosen up, especially since the idea of "all-" teams is supposed to be (in my opinion, anyway) is to identify, then honor who the group that is choosing the "all-" team are the best players.

My question is why does it have to be Coaches association all state? Why can it not be a MSHSAA Coaches All-State Team? Teams can play in districts anyway no matter if the coaches are a member?

I would assume that would be a Coaches Association money grab.

Years ago (very late 1970s, very early 1980s), during one of the Sportswriters and Sportscasters' all-state football meetings, Steve Reller from MSHSAA talked to us for a few moments. One of the more interesting (read: dumb) things he said was that MSHSAA really didn't want us to be picking all-state teams. You have not lived until you've watched 40 to 50 guys trying to stifle their collective laughter.

Yes it is a money grab and other sports do it besides football. Plus, there are several different football coaching associations in the state.
