Curious about some of the Class 1 Final 4 participants strengths and weaknesses.

Walnut Grove: relies on shooting and dribble drive it seems. Score a lot of points.
Glasgow: seems like they like to grind it out in the half court both offensively and defensively.
Advance: has good interior play and can score in bunches it seems.
North Andrew: seems to rely on shooting as well and scores in bunches as well.

Would love to see some replies with other info on these teams. I think this will be a great Final 4 with these four teams

Walnut grove relies on pressure defense to create turnovers and swing momentum in their favor. No one in class 1 rides on momentum like these guys. Blink once and they can score boatloads. Hunter Gilkey runs the show and knows how to get to the rim and is a much improved shooter over a year ago. They have probably 4 legitimate 3 point shooters, none more formidable than Junior Logan Thomazin at 6'3. He is a strong ball handler, great finisher in traffic, strong, and maybe the best all-around shooter and scorer in class 1. They play with a chip on their shoulder and don't mind being the team of "bad boys." Their philosophy is get a layup or a 3 pointer.

Wg will run 2-2-1 and an active 2-3 zone to speed up the opponent and encourage off-balance shots. They try to hold serve until one of their shooters catches fire.

To beat them you have to hold down Thomazin, hope a couple of their other shooters are off, and handle pressure. They come at you all night, no matter the circumstances. If they have a weakness, it's their lack of size overall in rebounding and shot contesting, but they don't need much with their perimeter pressure, quickness, and athleticism. The size that they do have is very physical and know their roles in the overall game plan. I would favor them to beat Glasgow.

Sounds like the WG vs. Glasgow game will for sure be a clash of styles.

"Bad Boys" don't run zone.

When I use the term, I definitely don't mean anything personal on the kids, because I don't know them, but there was an article last year that mentioned them embracing haters from other teams.

Here is my opinion, for what it's worth.

I will be in CoMo Saturday to watch Advance hoist the trophy.

WG plays uptempo and you have to be able to play them aggressively on the defensive end. I know Thomazin had close 20 and 28 against Greenfield in their two games together, but a lot of those came from the line late in the games. Greenfield defended him well, he is just that good. If you are to compete with WG you have to have guards that value the basketball and are not willing to hurry in the half court. If you get into a track meet with Walnut Grove you will lose by 15-20, or even 30. You have to keep it close and you must be able to defend and close out with active feet. They are beatable, and the teams that have done so have done a few things.

1. They valued the basketball and were not in a hurry to score on offense.
2. They limited WG to one shot each trip, Gilkey and Dishman are great garbage men that keep trips alive with their hustle. Guards blocking out is key. Long shots equal long misses.
3. They defended extremely well and made the WG guards work for everything they got.
4. Won Mental toughness. You have to stay mentally tough against Walnut Grove. They are scrappy, physical, and work hard. If you can't handle being bumped, beat up, and roughed up, you will be done before halftime.

I have not seen many teams up north, but Greenfield and Hermitage are two very good guarding teams and they have excellent guards. Not being mentally tough enough and not being able to handle physical and mental pressure hurt Greenfield. Hermitage I think did most of these four, but I think experience of being there before helped Walnut Grove.

Good luck to all four teams this weekend.

No, I have not, there is one team I have not seen.

My opinion stands, Advance will not be denied this year.

They have too much heart.

You haven't seen North Andrew then. They are about 11 deep and have ridiculous size. My pick for the championship game is North Andrew vs. Walnut Grove.

I will take my crow medium, thank you.

Great game, somebody had to lose. Cograts to both on great seasons.
