Never know what can happen BUT spectacular pick because it shows the HC and GM are serious about solving the one problem that could (like most of the Marty years) prevent a real Super Bowl run..............

He's no Rifleman....

The reason I like this pick is because he reminds me of Brett Favre. I hope he plays like it. I have been REALLY excited about only 3 Chiefs 1st round picks since 2005. Eric Berry, Derrick Johnson, and Pat Mohames. The 1st two worked out great and hopefully the third does also.

I sincerely hope that you are right Hat... They gave up one helluva lot to get him ! They really need to address their needs on defense to stay competitive.

I hope that I am wrong, but I dont like this pick. They gave up a lot on this guy. When was the last time the Chiefs drafted and developed a QB? I felt that there was better talent on the board when they traded up, some of that talent at the QB position. I am also guessing that this pick is a sign the Chiefs have given up on Tyler Bray.

I would have to agree with you here. A Dalvin Cook or another weapon on offense would have been nice, or a piece on defense to help add depth to stop the run if and when DJ goes down. I am sure Mahomes or another QB like him would have been available today or tomorrow. I was honestly hoping for McCaffrey. He would have excelled in Reid's offense.
Also we have seen that big time arm and potential does not always translate into great QBs. I hope this pick does not set the Chiefs back.

If he reminds you of Favre then I can't fathom Andy taking him. Historically he doesn't like gunslinger QBs

That is where TODAY is very important. The kid they got in the 2nd round from 'Nova may be a project but that does address the obvious DL need. RB was actually my #1 concern going into 2017 and that was addressed in the 3rd round. Four picks today (5th-6th rounds) will be PIVOTAL.

Andy was GB's quarterback coach when Farve first went to the Packers. Think he even pushed for the trade with Atlanta to get him.

Vikes got a steal at 41.........................

I would have been happy with Dalvin Cook with the Chief's 27th pick. Or with Reuben Foster. Not to say I don't like moving up for Mahomes..

Right. And oh how easy it is for assistant coaches to be riverboat gamblers. I haven't seen Andy preferring that approach as a head coach.

I don't know much about Mahomes except the assertions that he has a strong arm. I'm only observing that Andy has been very conservative as a head coach. Don't get me wrong, I loved watching Favre play but as a coach I would not have favored his style of play. Now, is Mahomes a Favre type player? I don't know, I'm only going on Trifecta's impressions as stated here but if they are correct then how will he and Andy get along. I think like oil and water.

Trifecta is one of many making comparisons to Farve. Valid? Hope so!

There are many takes on this pick, dissension between the qbof and the head coach is a unique one, wrong but unique. Question, was McNabb considered a dink and dunk game manager like AS11, not really. Foles, Mike Vick? I think Andy is itching for a gunslinger.

After the draft... If Derrick Johnson cannot line up and play, they are in big trouble. I sure hope that the big DL from Villanova can contribute. That being said, the RB from Toledo and the WR from Michigan look like solid picks.

Yeah Marty only had Montana for two years,Trent Green for 6 and Gannon whom after playing his butt to get us to 13-3 he benched for Grbac to start the playoffs. Marty sucked in the playoffs, he had alot of great teams loaded with players just to fall on his face. I so disliked him after the Gannon BS, and not paying Nick Lowery instead going cheap with Elliot who screwed us in the playoffs as well..

As far as the CHIEFS drafting and maturing a QB the last was Croyle, UGH. This kid may be a player and will have a few years to sit but I hope hes more like a Rodgers than a Favre. All them interceptions Favre threw i wont have any hair left...

Dorsey and Reid see Favre and Rodgers in Mahomes and have even said it themselves. The kid has a very high ceiling and I can't wait for him to learn the playbook and start the 2018 season.

My LEAST favorite long running commercial is Brett Favre endorsing Copper Fit back support because "Ah played 20 years in the National Football League. Nobody took a beating like Ah did."

Must get an ILB in free agency IMHO. Otherwise yes they will struggle vs. the run again.

Yeah, but we got Mahomes. One or two years later some ilb or edge rusher in this draft may be all pro, but the Chief's got their gbotf. We had ten draft choices this year. We don't need ten, we need a QB to sit for a season or two (if Alex gets the Chiefs to the AFC championship next year, they can't dump him) then he takes over. Good draft!

Moving up via trades cut down the number of picks but agree this is about as good as they could do. Being a bit greedy I would've loved to see them get that ILB from Vandy.

Who is going to rotate with Benny Logan at the nose ? That could be a problem as well particularly if Logan does not stay healthy.
They have just under three months to keep looking. Cannot fix everything in one draft/FA run unfortunately.
