Chasing district points

So, this past weekend, something unusual occurred. Helias was up by 10 over Capital City and with less than 2 seconds left in the game, they line up for a field goal to get the margin of victory to the "magical" 13. Instead, Capital City blocked the kick and returned it for a TD and got the subsequent 2-point conversion. While Helias still won, the margin of victory was only 2 instead of 10 (or 13). Helias now is still behind Capital City in the district standings. I haven't done the math, but I believe the 10 point margin would have given Helias the lead over CC . If Holt or Timberland happens to finish between the 2 and CC maintains the advantage in points, Helias would no longer be placed ahead by virtue of head-to-head. Has anything like this happened anywhere else over the years?

I realize there's still a lot of football left to be played, so it may "correct" itself, but I thought this was interesting and wondered if anything similar had ever happened before.

i thought head to head mattered, but I am also a moron, so who knows.

It does if it stays as the current standings. Currently CC is 3 and Helias is 4, so Helias would jump them. I think the first post is saying that if CC gets to #2 and Helias stays 4, then they could not jump them.

Helias jumps over Capital City no matter the spread so are currently technically the 3 seed. Holt and Timberland face off to finish the regular season, by the way.

I am aware. Not exactly predicting it, but neither Helias nor CC play a gauntlet the rest of the year so they could both go 3-0. If either Holt and/or Timberland go 2-1, (without doing the math) the possibility exists that Helias could suffer by chasing those points against CC.

I just thought it interesting.

If Helias wins by 10
Helias 40.333
Capital City 39.833

If Helias wins by 13
Helias 40.833
Capital City 39.333

Current Standings with the 2 point win by Helias
Capital City 41.17
Helias 39.17

Capital City is being helped right now by the Rock Bridge game. Going to OT gave them an extra 5 point boost. But if the season ended today, Helias would be the 3rd seed and CC the 4th due to the head to head win.

Yep they almost really paid the price. Holt hosts Jackson Week 8 that could be tossup city.

Both Holt and Timberland have a tougher schedule to finish the regular than either Helias or CC so it's very possible Helias and CC ends 1-2 in which case the margin of victory won't matter.

Thanks for the clarification. That's kind of what I thought. It's not like the coach is going to be on the sideline with his abacus to make those decisions.

Holt has been a puzzle this year. They were very senior heavy last year, so a dropoff might have been expected, but they've done pretty well. On the other hand, based on how they were doing I thought they would destroy Fort Zumwalt North and only won by 7.

Was not long ago at all FZ North was the highest regarded C5 program in that area. Teenage kids playing ball sometimes is a major head scratcher. What makes it all the more fun to watch!
