It's wrong to paint with such a broad brush. But SWMO has an ugly history of racial violence. That's a fact.

See, that is my problem with all of this. A majority of the US (or very large portion) has an ugly history of racial violence. What has been so bad down in SWMO in the last 25 years that would lead you to believe that it is the same now as in its past? It is in the least hypocritical, and at its worst simply racism to say the things that have been said about the people of SWMO in this thread alone. You think that we just sit around and talk about people of a different race, when they are not around? That person is obviously not from SWMO, but has an Opinion about small towns based totally on here say. You All (St. Louis people) jump all over other posters for doing that same thing to people in St. Louis (and rightfully so). It is Not ok for you guys to do it to people from SWMO simply based on a few that fly a flag that you may not like. Pot Meet Kettle.
25 years? Why the random time line? St.Louis? I'm not from St.Louis, can't stand the place. But I can read history. And per capita, southwest Missouri was as harsh as anywhere. You don't have to like it. Facts are facts.
I'm sorry, how is all this racial talk overshadowing the fact that Cassville now has funnel cakes!? The funnel cake debate has been raging on MoSports for years and now there is a new player in the game, but no one is talking about it!?!?

Based on recent history in Cassville I don’t think you will have any problems with bigots but you might want to bring your own water.
So for all of recorded history (the last being 70 years ago) there were a total of 15 black people lynched in all of SE KS and SWMO.
I would hazard to guess there were many more white people than that hung over the same period of time in the same region.
How many black people are shot and killed a year in St Louis right now by other black people???? If you are murdered you are murdered it doesn’t really matter if it’s by a rope, knife, fists or gun and the simple fact is more black people are killed in a year by other black people in St Louis than for all of the rest of rural Missouri in history.
from the time period covered in the article you attached late 1800’s and early 1900’s the unfortunate piece of our country’s history is that articles could be written about every zip code in the country during that era. None of the examples in this article were more recent than a century old. Now how about getting back to funnel cakes?

SWMO had less lynchings than any of the four regions of the state. Also less slavery than any other region.
Well I honestly don’t know anyone who would justify anyone being killed, but how do you justify hundreds of black people being killed just in St Louis every year???
How is it that 15 people killed over a century deserves a memorial but the hundreds dying every year now don’t even make the local news??
