I know Carthage beat Nixa earlier in the season without Derryberry, but I have heard that Nixa is getting better week by week and that they have switched QB's...

If they play a clean game and limit turnovers I'll take Carthage by a couple scores.

Carthage is impressive with Derryberry, but this game is a toss up in my eyes. I think it will be a 1 score game and could sway either way. Gonna be a fun game. I wish I could be in two places at once lol.

That is why they play, both teams want to win but only one can say that they are a quarterfinalist. Two teams enter one team goes home!

The season has come full circle. Before the season started it sure looked like it would be Carthage-Nixa at this point but because of injuries at times it didn't look like either school would get here. I still think with Derryberry healthy on both sides of the ball that Carthage is a little better team. I like Carthage to win and ultimately make it to the dome. I think the Park Hill-Fort Osage winner (PH by a FG) will ultimately be the state champ but anything can happen.

At this point in the season, if there is a team that hasn't improved greatly, they have a serious problem. Any team with 13 weeks of practice should improve a great deal. (Obviously injuries, swine flu, MRSA breakouts, and other outlying factors can affect this, but just generally speaking, every team should improve and get lots better.)

Last time Carthage won it late! For Carthage to win no turnovers! They have to stop stalling in the redzone! Last Carthage has to play to win not play not to lose! Coach Guidie gets real tight in his play calling when in big games!

I thought Carthage looked like the slightly better team last time even without Derryberry. Nixa is a great team, no doubt but they appeared to be heavily dependent on Tyler... seemed like the kid was leading the charge on every play of offense, defense, and special teams...he was really amazing. I haven't seen the Tigers play with Derryberry, but from the sounds of it they are playing to win now. There were a few games I saw where I felt playing "not to lose" would have been the perfect description. I think Nixa, coming off a trip to the dome and with high expectations for this season may have got in a funk after losing some games they may have thought they could/should win and Carthage may have been able to take advantage of a team that was mentally down temporarily.

I think it's fair to say that both teams are playing better football than they were at that point in the season. I like Carthage's chances to avenge last year's season ending loss, but Nixa at home and playing well won't shock anyone to win it either. Both of these teams had high expectations this year and I'm not really at all surprised to see them meeting back here again.

I agree that it's gonna be a great game, and either team can win this.. That being said I think Carthage had the edge, having Derryberry back on both sides of the ball, a really good O-line, they seem to make Defensive adjustments at half time (last 2 weeks they have gave up 42 1st half points and 0 2nd half points against to good teams in Neosho and Belton) and they can score with anybody.. 1 team is going on and 1 team is going home, but after the game both teams should hold their heads high.. Should be a really fun game to watch...

All the other Class 5 games are on Friday night. Why is this game on Saturday afternoon? Anyone know?

I didn't realize it was being held on Saturday. That seems strange considering the close proximity of the two schools. Not that I am complaining, I like Saturday games.

The way I understand it is they have a choice of playing Friday or Saturday this week.. The host town gets to pick which day and as long as there isn't a really good reason why the other team can't play that day then that's when it is played.

I know we are late in the season, and the only teams left are the ones who really want it but, I'm going to say Carriage is going to be hungry for this W, and I'll take them by 3 TDs

Little big but I agree from the games I've seen and listened to with both I think cTOWN should be around a 10 point favorite.

Nixa is peaking at the right time, and they will win this game handily. Their overall record is deceptive because they had some key players injured earlier in the year, and those players have returned. In addition, the revamped offense with the change at QB is more potent. The score of the Republic game does not truly reflect the degree to which Nixa dominated the game, especially in the second half. It was 31-10 at the end of the third quarter, and for all practical purposes the game was over.

It seems like a lot of people are favoring Carthage, though (not surprisingly) the o-zone guys both picked Nixa. Carthage is not the same team, and with some change-ups neither is Nixa from the sound of it. Hopefully Carthage isn't looking past this game, thinking their previous defeat of Nixa without Derryberry means this one is already in the bag. If they think that, they will find themselves in a hole quickly.

Both teams really want this game, so I think regardless of the outcome it will be hard fought.

Does anyone happen to know why it's at Nixa instead of Carthage? I am not sure how the location is determined beyond districts.

Nixa hasn't hosted as many games

Actually I think they have both hosted 2 games (Carthage had a 1st round bye) so either the bye counts as a home game or I have also heard that if 2 teams have hosted the same amount of games then this year (odd year 2015) the team on the top of the bracket host the game. Next year is a (even year 2016) and the team on the bottom of the bracket will host.. not 100% sure on that, just how it was explained to me when I asked the same question..

I also could be wrong about Nixa hosting 2 games, I just thought I had heard that they have hosted 2 as well.

I think Republic was the top seed in that district so Nixa probably had to play at Republic. Which I kind of get, but that system seems to give a home advantage to lower seeds, right?

I guess the assumption is that any team that is left this deep in the game is going to be good regardless of their initial seeding.

You might actually be right. A bye doesn't count as a hosted game..

It is set up so that its all one seeds have won.. I don't like it, but I think it's probably as fair as your going to get...

I believe Carthage will be focused on nixa to avenged last years lost in the quarterfinals.

I'll be behind Carthage, so many friends from there. But I really think Nixa will take this one. i'd like to see Carthage in St Louis since Webb stopped them several times when I really felt Carthage was our most difficult game. We stood in their way and I really think it would be pretty cool if both Webb and Carthage make it there. Nixa just looks to me to be the better team, this year.
