Republic is good, but I think Carthage is much better than many are giving them credit for. This time next year, Carthage may be the team to beat in the COC.

Yeah…I kinda had that same reaction. I think Carthage will always be solid as long as their current staff is around…but they aren’t exactly flush with athletes currently. And the next Luke Gall is nowhere to be found. That dude put a lot of lipstick on pigs in 21 and 22.

Agreed Guidie will keep churning out quality teams but moving forward I think may look a lot more like a decade ago than the past 5 or 6 years. What I mean is they will have good sometimes great teams, but it won't matter in terms of post season because the reality is they are now stuck again, probably for a long time in a Webb City district. With or without Roderique Webb will always be deeper and will out-talent them in at least 9 of 10 years. Understanding the demographics and dynamics of the two schools it's difficult for me to envision a scenario where that isn't true.

Having said that I do think the current Carthage team looks promising especially looking to next year. Will they be the team to beat? That may be a stretch considering the current COC. They will have to prove that but it's not like Carthage football rose to prominence with Luke Gall and thus will fall without him. However it was helped by a district void of Webb City that no longer exists. Even in most of those great post season runs they still lost to Webb City including the year they won state.
