Carthage 21 Joplin 49 - Final

I’d rather steer the discussion away from the fact that Joplin was better in every phase and at every position and instead discuss the flag planting thing.

The Branson loss is going to end up pushing Carthage from the 1 to the 3 seed. Also the Grandview forfeits are having the same effect with helping Raytown South.

How crazy is the COC this year? Carthage gives WC a bloody nose but loses big to a Joplin team who was given a bloody nose by Webb City while Nixa squeaks by a thriller against a Republic team who has only lost to Webb City who lost to Nixa. Good lord!

The district may play out equally as crazy. Looking at a potential first round match-up with 7 seed Neosho being the slight favorite against 2 seed Raytown South if everything plays out as expected Week 9

Does Nixa get a bye week in district play. How does that work this year and what are your predictions?

Ruskin should beat Excelsior Springs easily and Sedalia should beat Hogan easily. Even with the play-up bonus, a 13+ point loss to Joplin would be too much to keep Neosho from dropping to 7. Raytown South would have to lose to Winnetonka and have Carthage beat Willard in order to drop to #3.

On the Class 6 side; Nixa, Joplin and Kickapoo have all earned first round byes with Waynesville & Ozark already locked in to the 4/5 play-in game.

So apparently.. Joplin planted their flag in their own field....

Yes. I guess. Sorta. But not really. 4/5 play each other. Then Nixa plays winner and 2/3 play each other. So, effectively, 1-3 get a bye.

The Joplin/Kickapoo game should be interesting.
Possibly. But I’m pretty sure it’s just semifinal fodder. I can’t see anyone competing with Nixa. Might take an all-star team of the four other teams in the district to do that. And I’m not sure Nixa is all that GREAT. They’re a good to very good C6 football team.

If Renfo goes off like he did vs Carthage Joplin has a good shot. The prior game was decided by some self admitted bad decisions by Jasper and im not sure Renfro even played a down. To add the less Gooch has to throw the better.

Those are all fair points. Not sure Perry will allow Renfro to run wild. Stopping Joplins run game is a good bit simpler than stopping REPMOs. But your point is certainly valid. A healthy Renfro makes Joplin better on the ground and by default through the air as well (for the reason you stated).

Maybe it was tainted by the fact that renfro scored basically every time he was handed the ball but Joplin looked like the team I expected them to be at the start of the season. They were so much better than Carthage at literally everything, running, passing, tackling, kicking, you name it. I have no idea how Webb city beat them. Injuries might have been a factor. I thought they looked better than nixa.

Last week was, by far, the best game Gooch has had. If he can continue to play at that level, I think Joplin has a great shot against Nixa. But, they'll need to get by Kickapoo first. It's hard to tell how good Kickapoo is. I think the only good team they have played is Lebanon and they seem to be incredible this year.
