What does Mississippi large school HSFB look like this year? I haven't paid lots of attention to the Magnolia State thus far.................pre-season rumblings were about Madison Central that is about all I know.
GREAT story! Very cool that is so rare anymore. West Point is almost always a strong squad let's see what happens when/if they face Picayune, though. Can't speak much on others, but as you may recall the old lady's family is all from West Point. Nephew is a Senior D lineman and has been having a breakout season for them. Has been pressed into kicking duties. He went full on George Blanda with a straight-on squared toe kicking shoe. 🤣 Last week was the first time he was allowed to try XP's. Missed his first, went for two on the second to stay on track score wise. The third was partially blocked, yet somehow hit the crossbar and crawled through. The joy he showed was stupendous. Made the next couple before missing another in a quick 1st qtr turbo clock affair.
The feeling is West Point should cruise to a I believe if memory serves 8th straight North Championship, but will fall to a much more talented Picayune squad for a 2nd consecutive year in the State final.
One point of note - it's already been announced Mississippi will expand to 7 classes next season. That blows my mind.
Kane is drinking again..........
Got me going here not at all familiar with the MS gulf coast schools but appears Picayune didn't play any Louisiana schools if I am reading that right. Love their mascot, by the way, being MS no way they call themselves Crimson haha.GREAT story! Very cool that is so rare anymore. As for 7 classes they would join next door neighbor Arkansas both way less populous than Missouri yet some think we need to go back to 5 classes.............
Yeah we'll see how things play out starting next week. Senior night tonight, actually leaving here in a hour or so. Hearing rumblings Coach Chambliss is thinking retirement soon. Will be interesting to see if they can keep momentum when he does finally hang up the whistle. I know all of North Mississippi won't miss him patrolling the opposing sideline 😛.GREAT story! Seven classes? Whoa! Does that include 8-man? Wonder how many schools per class? Can't speak much on others, but as you may recall the old lady's family is all from West Point. Mid 20's per class it appears.Seven classes? Whoa! Does that include 8-man? Wonder how many schools per class?
NICE thanks! Hey you didn't mention Batesville - South Panola. Guess the dynasty really is gone. We have a sister company in Hattiesburg was just there last March yes everyone mentions Oak Grove when HSFB comes up. Always watch those Memphis metros, too. I follow HSFB in that city just not quite to the degree of years past will look at Southhaven thanks for that tip, too! MS is always a phenomenal state to follow you have whet my appetite!@thetophat2021 after talking with folks at the game tonight, it appears undefeated Tupelo will be the favorite in the largest class. They smoked Madison Central a few weeks back, one of three losses for them this season. However, they have done this before only to fall early in the playoffs. Other contenders would be undefeated Southhaven and perhaps Starkville in the North, Brandon (who also beat Madison Central in the non-district portion early on), Ocean Springs (undefeated, but largely untested) and Oak Grove-Hattiesburg (who beat Brandon two weeks ago) in the South.
Brother in law thinks it's Brandon's to lose, and he keeps up with it better than anybody else I know. He also feels Picayune (5A defending champs over West Point) is the best in the state overall. I countered Louisville (4A) is the best I've seen this year whose only loss was a one point heartbreaker to Starkville early on and he agreed they were the best team West Point had faced to date.
In summary, it's pretty wide open in the top classes other than Louisville who should romp to another 4A title.
Now if THIS doesn't show everyone how unpredictable HSFB can be................Jenks, who is rebuilding and struggled all year, ENDED Bixby's 58-game winning streak last night!!!!!!! Holy mother of............NICE thanks! Hey you didn't mention Batesville - South Panola. Guess the dynasty really is gone. If you are looking at anything else regional (this applies to everyone) go check out Bixby OK replays some time on You Tube. I think they may be the best team that state has ever fielded.
Yeah, not sure what happened to South Panola, but they are nowhere near the same. Respectable in a sense (8-2, with losses to Southaven and Oxford), but not dominate by any means. Peaked at their schedule, and they no longer travel out of state to test themselves against National powers like they used to. One would think Horn Lake would be really good from that area, but they are winless on the season. It seems in the past few years the balance of power has shifted to the South half of the state.NICE thanks! Hey you didn't mention Batesville - South Panola. Guess the dynasty really is gone. Just peeked at Southaven they are staying strictly local, too. Yes I miss those South Panola vs. LA-TX top guns games! Not sure what happened at Horn Lake maybe their top kids are playing for privates in the area??? Just a guess........Yeah, not sure what happened to South Panola, but they are nowhere near the same. All good, Eagles, glad to help as I've now been there thrice and last March was a nearly full week: It is obviously a college town but not overwhelming (medium enrollment). The area is very nice but watch (this as you already likely know is a given near the Gulf anyway) that swampy humidity. It was even in evidence that month!Okay...I'm going to hijack now, just because Top has Hattiesburg knowledge. What is Hattiesburg like? Wife wants to move south when I can retire. Could be 7 or 10 years (rule of 86 might be too hard to pass up), but we're planning now. She'll still be working. Perks of marrying a younger lass. I'll be able to play golf guilt-free for a good 10 years. I REFUSE to do FL. Too GD many people. But basically want the year round golf forecast if I'm going to pack up and move. Have considered Charlotte area, but don't think the weather is winter warm enough. Hattiesburg-ish has come up. She likes Savannah, but the schools suck and I don't think I want THAT close to beaches. I've got my sites set on Lake Oconee in GA, but I know I'll have to stick it out to rule of 86 to make that happen. I wouldn't mind a college town/metro area an hour or so away, merely for the sports entertainment. But needs to be far enough away I don't have to put up with a ton of people. Hattiesburg seems to relatively fit that a bit.
Don't keep up with the privates down here other than for baseball since they are totally separate from the public side of things. I would think since they are mostly overlooked anyone who wants regional or national exposure would steer away from them but that's just my uninformed guess.Just peeked at Southaven they are staying strictly local, too. Yes I miss those South Panola vs. LA-TX top guns games! Not sure what happened at Horn Lake maybe their top kids are playing for privates in the area??? Just a guess........
If you do relocate (or even just stop by) give me a shout. I can get us on either Old Waverly or Mossy Oak (new Miss St. golf course just across the way on Waverly in West Point) easily.Okay...I'm going to hijack now, just because Top has Hattiesburg knowledge. Does that offer extend to your fellow Doc Guys!?If you do relocate (or even just stop by) give me a shout. I can get us on either Old Waverly or Mossy Oak (new Miss St. golf course just across the way on Waverly in West Point) easily.

Will do! In-laws live outside of Huntsville, so we're in the "relative" area every now and again. And I would freaking love to play either of those. Remember reading about Mossy Oak when they were um, building, it. Pretty cool what that guy does to design a course. Drove past once, but it wasn't anywhere near done. That had to have been 5+ years ago though. Think we were on way to NOLA.If you do relocate (or even just stop by) give me a shout. Thanks for the info! The only real pause I've had is the summer heat. Oconee is WAY more expensive, but I like that Athens is close, Atlanta (not that I want much of it but cool they have Thrash, Braves, Falcons, and Hawks) is like an hour and half, and the weather is more tame in summer. Not much different summer than MO, but winters are obviously far more mild. But man, it ain't cheap. All good, Eagles, glad to help as I've now been there thrice and last March was a nearly full week: It is obviously a college town but not overwhelming (medium enrollment). Cost of living is very reasonable. Pretty much every and anything you want is there and the big Easy is a quick trip down I 59. Gulf is about an hour south. The #1 positive is the RESTAURANT scene which is incredible. NEVER EVER visit without going to the Crescent City Grill. If seafood is not your deal no worries that central-west part of town is full of outstanding ones mostly not chains.
I have already chatted with my family about that town for retirement, too. I am circa 8-9 years away if health etc. cooperate. I highly recommend it!
Btw...Pretty sure we walked right past that restaurant walking from tire place to Eds.All good, Eagles, glad to help as I've now been there thrice and last March was a nearly full week: It is obviously a college town but not overwhelming (medium enrollment). Of course!Does that offer extend to your fellow Doc Guys!?
Here, here! With you local connections and me being a famous documentary star, we wont have to buy a meal or drink in that ENTIRE TOWN!! I may just have to swing down your way!Of course!
Consider Rome, GA. Two small private colleges in town, one hour from Atlanta and Chattanooga. Beautiful, friendly town and area. Thanks for the info! The only real pause I've had is the summer heat. We love that Hattiesburg is super close to NOLA. We love it there. Actually got married there. I'll check Crescent City out next time we're through. Had to get a tire replaced last time we were through there. While waiting we stumbled across Ed's Burger. Man, the kids loved that place! The $8 milkshakes about sent me over the edge though. lol
Ya get what ya pay for! Haha all good. Hey Atlanta also has an airport! Fun times connecting there............🤢Thanks for the info! The only real pause I've had is the summer heat. Agree on that one except those uncommon occasions when it snows.Consider Rome, GA. Two small private colleges in town, one hour from Atlanta and Chattanooga. Beautiful, friendly town and area.
You know, the Mrs. and I love hitting the golf courses when we travel!Of course!
