Looks like Randy Reed is leaving Forest Park CC to be the AD and head basketball coach at Cardinal Ritter.
Reed continued to teach at McCluer North while coaching at Forest Park.

Tougher place to recruit to...McCluer North...FoPoCC...or Ritter?

Lay Off the private schools and recruiting....they just don't recruit plain and simple.

Dude jlar2015, how does private schools get their players if they don't recruit students? I've gotta go with the " Well Known Member " eagle ball on this one.

How could they recruit if The basketball commission doesn't allow it. Don't they have transfer rules like the other schools. I just think with all the polices and policing that it would be hard for them to do..

It is now official! We continue to unearth people here that are TOTALLY CLUELESS! Virtually EVERY Catholic parish elementary school conducts "High School Days"! They open their schools up to various Boys, Girls, and Co-ed High Schools who come in and set up informational tables and booths so they can "RECRUIT" future students into their respective school. If they would NOT do this.....................they may not be very successful at putting butts in the desks!

The transfer rules are not "school" rules they're MSHSAA rules and many privates in the state belong to MSHSAA.

And it is also clueless to think public schools don't recruit, as well.

But if you live in another state you can go to a private school in Missouri & play for a state championship. There is no way you can get away with that if you go to a public school!

I get it a little better now CD...im guessing that's why I saw kids from Kansas on the Barstow Roster this year. Can public schools offer these high school days or does that violate a rule? I think a public tournament and a private tournament where the winners played each year would be cool. I just think that families still move to private schools because more often than not they are better schools for their kids IMO.

Actually give the private school their share of the MSHSAA money, that they helped started by the way, and let them start their own association where they wouldn't have to abide by any of the MSHSAA rules and they could then make up their own rules regarding recruiting, scholarships, games played, ect. Heck they should make private schools basically a college prep training and league for college, because the new organization wouldn't have to abide by limited coaches contact days and they could work with the kids all year around. And I wonder if they did this, since so many people think high schools give free rides to the great students they recruit, they would offer even more scholarships to more students from public schools. Or maybe NIKE, MLB, NFL, NCAA, or someone will help put money into this new organization to help give more scholarships to more students to attend these private schools where they can get a great education AND better training. HMMM mayb you are right and they should be seperate. Might want to be careful what you wish for.

All I got from your statement MJ was rambling and that you probably went to a private school. AWESOME!!!

actually wrong. I went to a 4A public school, and went on to play college and a bit of proball, not basketbal. To many of you continue to not understand some of the reasons why when this gets brought up to vote by the members why it continues to get voted down by larger margins. Because what I said was very realistic to happening if the private schools started their own organization. Plus that new organization could welcome any public school to its organization, meaning they too wouldn't have to abide by any MSHSAA rules and they could then recruit athletes from other public schools as well. MSHAA isn't part of the public school system, a fyi, it is a whole different identity. Or it doesn't even have to be a private school who starts this new organization, a bunch of public schools could do it as well.

So in the states that do have public and private separation why hasn't this become an issue???

Virginia: There are separate tournaments and state associations for public and private schools.
Texas: There are separate associations for public and private schools
South Carolina: There is an independent school state association
North Carolina: The state association does not allow non-boarding parochial schools to provide financial aid to athletes. There are also separate associations for independent and Christian schools.
Maryland: Separate tournaments and state associations for public and private schools.
Kansas: Proposals have been made to separate public and private schools, or move private schools into higher classifications.
New Jersey: There are multiple classifications and tournaments for public and non-public schools. Some sports bring multiple state champions together to create a Tournament of Champions.

Vashon did for a while. The only reason they had titles taken away was because Irons got caught in a federal investigation into his real estate dealing and they made him fess up about his high school basketball antis as part of a plea deal. If that hadn't happened Vashon would never had lost those titles even though everybody knew it was going on.

Well I saw on Twitter last night that a move in to Father Tolton had 19 points in their win. Looked the kid up and he's a heck of a player, but left his high school his senior year "where he was the all time leading scorer" and transferred to a private for his senior year. FYI also played on the same summer team as Porter with MO-Kan. MSHSAA rules are really a joke. I am starting to see why public schools get upset.

I will ask this. If public and non-public are separated, will the recruitment of kids be more apparent then? Non-Public will be forced to have even better teams if that is the case.

I think the non public would have to recruit harder, but if a private recruited the best player off a public team and it was seperated the public wouldn't have to beat a team that took their best player. Does anyone believe that MSHSAA has a good handle on this?
Hangman any details why they had the kid ineligible and then eligible?

Not sure. Ususally the committee declares them ineligible and then it is carried on to the executive board for appeals. It is done behind closed doors then. His mom lives in Columbia so I do not know why there would be a problem with him transferring. It does look bad, but it is all done the proper way in the Tolton kids case.

Well I'm glad for the kid being eligible because I never want to see a kid not get to play their senior year in a sport that I'm sure he loves. Sad that the system allows it though and feel bad for the teammates at his other school that have relied on him for 3 years. Guess Tolton couldn't get it done without another guard.

Do you think they recruit or the kids just decide to go there and can because of the lax rules that MSHSAA has?

Regardless of recruiting, transferring for athletic reasons isn't allowed under the current rules. It is up to the schools themselves to police it though. Basically pointing out it doesn't necessarily have to be recruiting that causes the issue.

Is it public knowledge of the kids at private schools that pay full tuition or can say an entire team be on academic scholarship
