Buck calls timeout with 32 seconds left in game......

I think the timeout in a game that's over is the point...or at least what I was referring to in my post. That's always seemed sophomoric to me.
I have seen coachs call time out with just a few seconds left to pull his seniors and shake their hands as they come off the field,,,, not an issue with that at all. But down by lots and just trying to keep the game going is silly to me

Going into an offseason with 42-21 loss is different for the kids than a 42-14 loss. It's about the same as $1.99 to $2.00. Doesn't actually change anything, but it makes you feel like you're getting a hell of a deal.

Had this been someone other than buckmaster, would it even be a topic of discussion? (serious question)

No cause they just don't give a crap in general,,,,,probably part of the difference in our program
You think caring about some stupid timeout that was called that led to an insignificant change in the final score is somehow related to the success of the Webb City football program? Really?

It's not at all. Simple question. Kennedy QB for CJ took an ass whooping all night. Had he gotten his freakin knee blown out on that last play would it have made a difference??? If WEBBs 2nd or third string linebacker would have gotten his knee blown out would it have made a difference??? Damn right piss ignorant time out and play..If somehow that score did something for motivation heading into next season, congrats. Personally I can't wait to see what Henderson does next year...

If your argument is about knees getting blown out, then shouldn't Webb have pulled all their starters by then (and actually quite earlier)? Shouldn't all teams just start taking a knee in the fourth quarter when the game's outcome is no longer in doubt? Or just stop the game altogether? Because no sports fan wants to see a kid blow out his knee.

Green Bay was down 30-10 last night but scored a touchdown on the game's final play.

It's sports - and there's typically a competitive nature that says "don't quit".

Seems to me the biggest complainers on here are people who don't like CJ or Buckmaster, or just want their lopsided victory prediction to hold up.

Webb wins 42-21 a very solid victory, and yet it's not good enough for the fans, they still have to look for things to bitch about.

No argument from me, man. Totally agree.

Injuries can happen at any time of the game. Is it at the point that it's not enough to win, now we're concerned about the other team?.
Go Cards!

This play had no outcome on this game. I would not personally call a timeout but it really doesn't matter. I do believe that we are trying to instill good character in students. The actions of the coach is important in this process. One of the reasons for Webb's success is their ability to get reserves into games to gain experience. The starters played I think 4-5 full games. This should bode well for next year. So I guess the benefit of putting reserves in is for experience.

By the way, the timeout came before the final touchdown, and The Joplin Globe reported that the final TD was scored with 1:10 to play. So it's not like this was a final rush job to squeeze in one final quick score. They still had time for more plays.

Who really cares if Buck called a timeout? He has certainly done a few odd things here and there but I am having a hard time seeing why this is controversial or matters to anyone.

I think there is confusion between commenting on something and the perception that It is something people are concerned with 5 minutes after you comment on it.

It wasn't that big of a deal but it was chuckle worthy.

It was called with 32 seconds left.....not 1:10. Webb kneeled the following kickoff then kneeled again to run the last bit of the clock

This has been very educational. Just to make sure I understand the Webb City handbook on sportsmanship and competition, it is okay to score in the fourth quarter to extend your 21 point lead to 28, but it is a no-no to score a touchdown to reduce a 28 point lead to 21. Thanks for the help here.

What does the handbook say about calling the best players from other schools and asking them to move to Webb City?

Which players are you referring? Can you actually name any or are you a worthless troll sitting at a computer in your underwear eating cheetos in your mom's basement?

Webb's leading tackler would be one that quickly comes to mind. Would've been nice if he were still a Bulldog and helping to tackle Henderson, instead of bringing down Weston. But I have no idea why he switched to Webb City and wouldn't want to judge his situation. It's just the most recent example. This would be an opportunity for a whole new thread, but the topic gets old. Webb City doesn't recruit - they don't have to. But their school and activities are of high quality so it's no surprise that numerous students transfer there. The most visible of those are of course the athletes playing on Friday nights.

Not sure of recruiting....but I know families have moved from one district to another for athletic reasons, whether for a program or to follow a coach.....I'm sure Webb has gained a few via this way, but I know of a family that has moved from Webb to another "nearby" school for basketball reasons (chasing a coach)... probably happens more in the bigger cities.

His mom got married to an elementary principal in the WC school district.

I actually don't think Webb has to recruit anymore. In the early 90s when they were getting rolling they did. One of my best friends got one of the calls. Now kids move their because I mean why would you not?

It annoys me that families can move anywhere they want without anyone questioning it, unless they move to Webb City. No one ever complains or makes it an issue if someone moves FROM Webb City to another school. Why wouldn’t families choose to move there? Their academics and athletics are equally superior.

No no no, you can move to Webb if you child is in band, chess club, Speech and debate, or just wants to attend school. But as soon as they are starters on a sports team it will draw alot of attention, mainly because it is Webb and the winning. Trust me if CJ goes on a tear and wins 3 state titles in a row people will be wanting DNA testing done on their boys too to confirm their Carl Junction connection.

I remember growing up in Joplin and Parkwood was always getting hammered for recruiting, there was this QB from there or someplace.....

Probably more your Buck theory.....pretty much any other coach it would have probably been overlooked.... comes down to his past reputation of questionable actions would be my guess proceeding him.....

From what I have heard from current and past CJ players is they don't care for him. I do think he is a good x/o coach. He has been able to win.
