Bryant PHC/Williams/Hannibal-Best Players in class 1-6 Hands down!!

The larger classes are not my cup of tea, and I don't often get out of the KC area, but J. Bryant from Central-Park Hill was the best player I saw this year. I'm sure there might be more talented kids playing at Liberty North, CBC, Ritter, that are legit 4-5 star recruits. But in terms of both a single players value to a team, and just ability in comparison to everyone else I've seen this year, Bryant is the best. Maybe of one the best singular performance I've seen in the Show Me Bowl in quite some time.

Honorable Mentions: Lutheran North QB looked like the best player on the field in the LN vs. Hannibal game. #22 from Hillsboro is a good one. The edge from Liberty North has Saban there for a reason. Four Stars.

Go back and watch videos of Tony Van Zandt of Hazelwood Central, and you will see there is no comparison with anyone. He was BY FAR, the most dynamic badass game changer ever. It was like watching an NFL player playing high school kids. That is why he was the #1 overall Parade Magazine Player of the Year, the best player in the nation.

Both great players. It is really hard to label any kid in any class as the best in the state. Different teams have different numbers and kids playing one side or both. Some coaches don’t need to depend on one, two or a few. But they definitely shined.

Anyone remember Jon Vaughn from McClure North???

For every bit that Jobe was important to PHC, Murphy was more so. When Murphy played, it allowed Bryant to do what he does in other positions. When they had to use Jobe at QB, that PHC team was very stagnant.

Not hard for me to label, I just did and I'm right.

Jobe and Murphy were both incredible Class 3 players and definitely needed each other to be as successful as they were.

Those dudes were “once in a life time” type players for towns like Park Hills. And they had coaches who knew how to use them and let it fly. Incredible season.
Well sorta. PHC has produced players. Unfortunately too many from outside the area look at this area as not being a "football zone", "valle is the exception not the rule."

The reality is that the area has produced really good teams that ran into the private schools from the STL. PHC has had a lot of studs the last 13 or so years, that never got the recognition they should have because of Burroughs, LN, Ritter, St. Mary's etc.....

Congrats to PHC on their state title.
I've heard the "if it wasn't for STL private schools," from SEMO area friends for 15 years. But those STL private schools routinely get beat by schools from other parts of the state. Check out the list of state champions. Go back as far as you want. Speaks for itself.

They have had some studs, but not this many at one time with a QB who can throw accurately. I mean most of the past 15 years Central has spent a majority of time in 3 back sets. This was different.

Yeah, there have been some really good teams that have come out that other side of the bracket. Blair Oaks/Maryville/Odessa have carried the water for most of those years. Really good football programs. If they beat the runner up by 21 and won the semi's by 28, does it matter? Odessa's toughest opponent a few years ago came from Kennett in the SEMI's. Do you think the coaching is any different? Facilities? Outside of those top crust teams, its mostly the same. There is not a magical line drawn that makes you good or bad at football. Few years ago Ritter lost to BO in the semi's 55-46, Blair Oaks beat Maryville by 22. And the only reason those two had a chance was because St. Mary's caught the vid. You see what I mean?

I've watched and coached enough football in my time to stand firmly on that position.

so what causes the discrepancy? West clearly dominates the East public schools.

Believe the Odessa team that could have done it all got the Vid that year also.

And...Valle beat that Blair Oaks State Championship team that year...before getting knocked out of the playoffs by St. Mary's in the district semifinals. only to have St. Mary's have to forfeit the next weeks because of Covid. Crazy year.

And Blair Oaks beat Lutheran North 44-9. The same LN team that beat St. Mary's 33-20.
