I hate to hear that but not at all surprised. He seemed like a man of integrity who really cared for the program and his players. But eventually results have to materialize and he recognized that's not happening.

About Roderique, I just don't seem him going to MOSO. He's got a pretty good thing going in a community with deep personal ties. Seems like getting setup to fail. There have been openings there before, but of course now all his kids are done at WC so IF that's something he's interested in now would be the time. He could move up to college level without having to move and could probably draw a lot of players from WC.

Not to devalue what he does, but Roderique is only a piece of the WC football puzzle, albeit a big piece. Would he succeed at the same level without all the intangibles supporting him and the program in Webb City? Though I will say, the current MSSU admin seems to support athletics and a future vision of athletics much more than the Leon era ever did.

I have always thought Roderique would go to PSU if the HC opportunity presented itself after his kids were done at WC.

Winning at the College is about being able to recruit the right players. For some reason MoSo doesn't get the players consistently that it takes to win. If they can get the upgrades to the stadium that would be a step in the right direction.

That is just a reflection of an unsuccessful program. With the right moves I think you could see things change over there. Ordinarily I am not one to advocate for building facilities to spur success but in college I do think it can help recruiting and winning IF you also have the right coach.

It would be fun if MOSO and PSU were legit rivals on the field so the high profile games in the area each year weren't limited to the COC.

I totally agree, I remember back in the 70's going to games and they were winning.

It would make sense in a lot of ways.(JRod)...first $ wise he could retire and then pick up an extra income from college job....second he would not have to move.....third he would hold huge weight in the area of recruiting.....and by the way he would be very successful....the guy can coach football and would have Mo Southern competing at a high level sooner than anyone else out there.

You understand that there is more football out there beyond WC football. Who cares about local recruiting? When Brown was recruiting me, they reached all the way down to TX to find me. A coach has to be able to spread his roots.

Give it to MoSo grad Tom Cox....the man bleeds Green.

Not sure split back veer would work in the MIAA, especially at MSSU.
Jerry Kill brought the Pitt State offense and defense with him to Webb City. Pitt ran it for years, they won a National Championship running the option in 91 (while JRod was a graduate assistant there).

Carson-Newman University seems to do alright in the split backs as well.

I don't think Rod would necessarily bring the veer to MOSO, IF HE WENT THERE. I think he would follow the pattern that Coach Kill went, you remember that Jerry did more than SB veer at Emporia, saginaw valley, Southern Illinois and everywhere else, like all great coaches he adapted his scheme to his players. I don't know if I could see Coach Rod going to Moso or not, but I don't think you would see as much SB veer as one would think.

Coach Bailey was at Southern in 04 and 05 with Coach Ware.
