Some may disagree with this opinion… but I feel rather confident that Seneca would win the OMG this year.
They were up a FG on WP at the end of the 3rd, they won that game by the margin they did because WP has back to back turnovers in the first 5 min of the 4th.
I still think Branson could get turboed in their district title game.
I forgot about the fake punt from CJs own goal line. CJ gave up 16 points from punting lol
Who knows how it’s all going to shake out, I just don’t see branson playing republic close in districts.
It is an awful football league. However it can be overcome somewhat. CJ is playing 3 ranked teams this year. If they add Parkview and Central the league would not be salvagable.
I still think CJ would be a better fit in the Big 8 would give the conference 4 class 4 schools, and you know Seneca Lamar is always going to be tuff.
Yeah they would be, especially with the Big8 as it is today vs when CJ left. The OMC is kind of a dumb conference created to solve a problem that didn't really exist.
Heck, Seneca would contend in the COC this year. Other than Nixa no one is clearly better.
Agreed. However there are a lot of other sports besides football. Seneca couldn't compete in any other sport in the COC other than wrestling. This is the same reason the Big 8 is a bad fit for CJ. The Big 8 is a good football league but it isn't very good at anything else. There is no good fit for CJ.
But like you say in other sports you can play so many non conference games?
I would say CJ should just rotate Lamar and Seneca in non conference games. The middle and bottom of the Big 8 and OMC are basically the same. Heck 2 of those OMC teams were in the Big 8. Now if somehow the OMC added Parkview and Central I would change my mind. That would possibly be the worst football league in history.
No doubt Seneca could probable play with a few of the teams in some one off situations. But to play a full COC schedule for a small class 3 school would be hard week in and week out. Most COC two platoon and if they don't the talent level does not drop off a whole lot for the next kid up. Seneca already has kids out this week they have the Newt and while the Newt is better, Seneca should come away with an easy victory and let some kids heel up and get ready for the next week. In the COC every week would be certainly be physically challenging and not Sure Seneca would have the depth to keep up.
However it is interesting to note, Between their Varsity down to the 3rd Grade in football I believe they have only lost 3 games all year. They look like they have a very solid pipeline of talent for awhile.
I heard they had only lost 1 but maybe that was a week or 2 ago.
Seneca could win a random game against any non Nixa COC team but they probably don't have enough kids to play a full COC schedule. Seneca even plays their QB on defense.
The "problem" was there were five schools (I'm going to throw @ChaoticFanatic a bone here) that sucked at football. They were all winning 0-2 games a year. Put them in the same conference, and viola, you have some "winners". And a whole lot of $$$ and windshield time spent to get there.
CJ won fewer than 3 COC games only once which was their last year.
And WP averaged 7 conference wins/year across the last decade in the OC
Some years only 6, some years 8 or 9, but usually around 7 wins.
If WP stays in the OMC, it’s going to be really hard to follow them moving forward, but now they’ve sealed their fate, it’s either independent, or OMC.
It would be interesting to see them go independent in football and stay in the OMC for all other sports.
I can confirm Carl Junction did have a winning COC record prior to the start of its final year in the conference.
A few of us tallied conference records for CJ during its stay in the COC and the numbers were interesting.
I am not sure why Rolla, WP, Lebanon, Camdenton, Parkview, Hillcrest and Central wouldn't work.
Sad thing is CJ and WP are a really good match other than the 3 hour drive
I don't know, on one hand I get it but I also don't. Branson and Neosho are similar. Whatever works for one should work for the other but Branson left and Neosho stayed. Repmo was an easy W not very long ago. And Willard hasn't been very good for several years now.
CJ was never bad, IMO they were more competitive than what many try to suggest but weren't really ever in the running to win the COC. The COC wasn't ideal for CJ but what is?
WP is a good team but their geography is epic bad. Bolivar is a little bit like CJ in that they don't have an obvious fit anywhere, but they and Hillcrest are a good pair.
So it's easy to see why this is referred to as the OMG conference but IMO the best arrangement is whatever gets the most kids out to enjoy playing school activities. If what you're doing now doesn't seem to be working I won't fault admins for giving something else a shot. I'm just not convinced that conference affiliation was actually the problem at some or any of these schools.
Branson supt was the main straw that stirred the drink of the conference. It was his brain child.
Neosho admin wanted to go and the community shut it down. Just the opposite for Willard. Or at least that's how I remember it happening.
The only school that the OMC should consider is Willard. They are a good fit in all sports and they are good in football every few years. How long will Willard stay in the COC
