Blackwell at Cardinal Ritter

She should not be allowed to play. Period.
If she qualifies under the MSHSAA exceptions for transfer they will let her play. financial hardship is considered an exception for transfer. The question is how far will they (MSHSAA) investigate to verify the validity of her transfer from one private school to the other.

That IS the question. Common sense says somethings up. Sources say she was expelled..... and that would clearly explain all of the odd circumstances and timing of this whole situation. Will another entitled athlete be allowed to break the rules? I dont recall a case more obvious than this one.

If she was expelled shouldn’t that make her ineligible due to the good citizenships rule? It used to read that if you’re ineligible from one school that goes with you to the new school. I don’t think that one has changed. At least I hope not.

Im not sure about that rule. Everyone knows all the private schools recruit and give “scholarships” which is the very definition of “influence or payment” to transfer to their school. Whitfield would rather stay quiet on the true situation so they wont scare off potential future “prospects”. If you consider the timing of the departure from Whitfield and the minimal statement from Whitfield, it smells. Why play one game (making you ineligible to play with another team) and suddenly say “we cant afford it” and leave. Just think about it. There is always someone out there who knows the truth and wants to see you fall or pay for your actions. That person(s) exists here too.

A lot of stuff being said that probably should not be unless you have proof. If she was expelled before a game and the coach let her play he would of been fired so I doubt she was expelled.
On her being eligible to play a lot has to do with the school she left. If the school she left marks on transfer papers they believe it was for sports then there is a hearing to determine eligibility to play. Not sure how that is decided as there are obvious ones that end up being eligible and some that are not. The Kirk kid in basketball transferred many years ago from SC West to Springfield and had to sit out his senior year. A football player from Lutheran SC transferred this year and he had to sit out senior year while 2 or 3 other kids from same team transferred and was allowed to play. So does not seem everyone is treated the same way.
I do know it was told to kids by coaches that a good way to be allowed to play is to claim bullying as a reason for transferring. It's a hot button in schools of course and hard to rule against.
To me this is a problem that has gotten out of hand on transferring for sports but not sure there is a good answer to it. But do think the way they are handling it now isn't right. The Gordon kid is an example of how it doesn't make sense.

Shouldn't matter if she was expelled or withdrew. She should be ruled ineligible. Also, the whole "bullying" thing doesn't work either. Few years back sisters from St. Clair moved and had to play JV. Heard the story behind the move was because of bullying. MSHSAA ruled them JV only for the following year.

Anything other than an ineligible ruling is a joke.

She traveled to Springfield to the Pink and White with LN so I assumed she was going there instead. Guess not...

She played after something as the team forfeited the game she played in.

Well, after “declining to comment” to 3 days later the school, mom and player suddenly having statements, Cardinal Ritter is now in the “appeal process”. Since districts have started , its safe to say she is ineligible. Since mshsaa made it clear it has nothing to do with the USA team but Whitfield was still forced to forfeit a game, it seems that mshsaa did their job and got the truth. Its too bad there weren’t better influences around this player. Its also too bad that schools and newspapers refuse to expose the truth so as not to upset anyone. “Winning at all cost” is something our society is obsessed with unfortunately.
