Kansas City, MO
I have been surprised by:

1) how bad Kearney's offense was for the first three weeks.
2) how many D1 athletes that Trinity has--and how good their team is.
3) that any Missouri schools lost to Kansas schools in the KC Metro matchups.
4) that Liberty North had such a terrible start to the season under Coach Jones.
5) Liberty, MO is overrated again. You'd think people would learn.
6) that Excelsior Springs is 6-1 (and only loss came by blowing a late lead to Harrisonville)
7) that Blue Springs can't seem to play to their potential.

8) And that Carl Juncton isn't playing the KC Chiefs because everyone knows that Carl Junction would beat them!!

I would say that Hannibal only being 4-3 is something that definitely wasn't necessarily expected
Tying directly to that, Mexico has been a mild surprise.

Lindbergh has been a huge surprise in Class 6 on the East side. Rock Bridge being 6-1 also a mild surprise.

North Callaway is quietly 6-1 in class 2.

Higginsville (or Lafayette County) is quietly 7-0 in class 2
Haven't seen a word about Ava being 7-0 either. Product of a weak schedule? Or just that good?

Mexico has been on the rise the last 3-4 years. Had some good teams derailed in districts.

And the SCA is down in some ways (Liberty and Grove now with the Otwell kid not being 100%)

Ava is pretty damn good though. Fundamental and physical. Should be interesting if they are to play Lamar. They play a very similar brand of football.

Smithville

Especially if they win district 8
not a big surprise to me either, they returned a lot of starters from last year. But I agree, being in a conference with four class 3 schools hurts them. Probably why they are moving to a different conference next season

Agreed. They also play Class 2 LeBlond.

So three of their games are against Class 3 teams and one of them is against a Class 2

I agree with at least some of what you said. That's rare.

8. That no one has B-slapped you yet this season.

Indeed. Knew they'd be much improved over last year's 3-7 record, but wouldn't have bet that they'd be 7-0 with vics over Hazelwood Central (6-1), Ritenour (6-1) and Jackson (5-2) ...not to mention they've scored 42 or more points every game. Fun team to watch that always responds with poise when they're put on the ropes.

Big one this Friday against 7-0 Eureka.

Must be running the midline.........
:p

Joplin has surprised me. CJ maybe shouldn't be a surprise but it is. I thought they would be good, but not on the level they have been. Seneca, I thought might be good, but still undefeated is a surprise.

Monett has also been a bit surprising in a negative way.

Keep cherping, Keearrnie fans. Your bullpups will know all about CJ soon. If your Kerareaneay boys survive Plate Co. that is.

Smithville is 5-0 verses Class 4 teams. Outscoring them 201-33.

They have four Class 4 teams, four Class 3 teams and one Class 2 team on their schedule.

They had two open dates and chose to play another Class 3 team (that is 3-4) and a Class 4 team that is 1-6.

It very well could be that's a championship schedule, but I don't think it's surprising or entirely beyond the pale that people are a little skeptical.

Class 4 teams
Savannah, 2-5
Benton, 1-6
Lafayette, 6-1
Winnetonka, 1-6

Bishop LeBlond, Class 2
Pleasant Hill, Class 3
Maryville, Class 3
Chillicothe, Class 3
Cameron, Class 3

A class 4 school refusing to schedule an opponent because they're too good is pretty freaking amazing to me!

Really! Refusing what? Smithville is closer to class 3 enrollments than Class 4, or at least equal. They have 841 students listed and they then have a conference affiliation which they can't help at the moment. Let them go into a conference where they will be the smallest for ten years then maybe you know-it-alls witll have more to talk about. Using rough numbers; Kearney (1200), Platte County (1100), Winnetonka (1300), PHill (650), Savannah (800), Benton (800), Lafayette (800), LeBlond (280)(Conference team), Maryville (430)(Conference Team and Lost 2 conference games in ten years), Chillicothe (650) (Pretty good program as well), lastly Cameron (450) (conference team). Granted there are some differences in enrollments, but Maryville and Chillicothe are hardly poor competition! Pleasant Hill was class 4 when they were scheduled and Winnetonka is part of the suburban which they are going to move to. Prior cycle Smithville played Park Hill that has 2000 students. Bottom line.....the MEC has some pretty good football teams. Those smaller schools do a good job and it shows in their competitive levels.

I think Revno was talking about the refusal of another class 4 STL-area team to play Class 2 Lutheran North.

Nothing to do with Smithville.

If that is the case then I am less offended. I just think that team has done a good job, played good competition, and played their schedule the best they could. They are closer in enrollments to many of those schools than not. Thank you for clarifying.

Yep, thought Pleasant Hill was Class 4

You can only play the schools listed on your schedule. And when you schedule your non-conference games over a year in advance you never know how good those teams will be.

Relax Coach, but just out of curiosity, how does a Class 4 for school have closer to class 3 enrollment than class 4? I mean, if they are class 4, they would have to be pretty close to class 4 enrollment right?
