This remains one of the dumbest takes in politics. Who do the Dixiecrats vote for in 2019? Who have been their candidates for the last 40 years? Jesse Helms, etc. weren't Democrats.

Eh, you can't ignore the rest of his career, but you can also acknowledge that he admitted in 1992 and 1996 to voting R. He would be a Republican now.

He's a pretty darn good example of the change that happened in the South. The party of power became Rs over a generation once Civil Rights laws passed. It is all a matter of perspective, the people I served with in the military that were from northern Virginia up to New York all consider anything north and east of New York as the Northeast. When I was in Massachusetts everything south and west of New York was Texas or how close is that to Texas. Welcome to the Texas of New England.
