A season ago the Eureka Wildcats joined an already solid
Suburban West Conference. Eureka, Lindbergh, and Marquette each finished
with 7-1 records sharing the league title. A trio of squads that each advanced
into the MSHSAA playoffs.
Looking forward to the 2011 season Eureka and Lindbergh appear
poised for another showdown for league bragging rights. A season ago
Eureka earned the league matchup, Lindbergh earned playoff revenge.
Let's take a look at each team in the Suburban West and top
returning players this season.

Eureka-- 9-3 overall,
7-1 in league play a season ago. Senior Spencer Stein
returns after leading the Wildcats with 1,181-yards and 17 touchdowns a season
ago. Stein averaged more than 7 yards-per-carry. Senior tight end
Andy McNeel and junior linebacker Nate Echard return
after all-conference seasons. Echard returns as the teams leading tackler.
Lindbergh-- The 2010 Flyers put together a solid season, earning a piece
of the Suburban Conference crown. In the Class 6 playoffs the Flyers
advanced with a victory over Eureka before falling to DeSmet 44-12 in the second
round.
Five offensive starters return for the Flyers including second
team all-conference quarterback Pete Simpson who surpassed
2,000 passing yards. In the offensive backfield Jordan Goodman and Garrett
Krueger return as big play ball carriers.
Defensively the Flyers gave up 18 points per game, the second
leading defense in the league. Senior linebacker Chris Few(5-10
205) returns after leading the Flyers with 113 tackles and a sack. 5
defensive starters return in the Lindbergh 5-2 set, the young Flyers much come
along quickly with a solid conference slate to open the season.
Marquette--8-3 a season
ago, Marquette brings the momentum from their best season in school history, but
must replace 26 seniors."The
junior class is a
big, physical, strong blue collar class, and we have a senior class
that is small in terms of numbers but there is some good talent
within the group. I expect this team to work very hard this summer
and play a very physcial brand of football this fall", commented
head coach Ryan Thornhill. Keep an eye out for senior
OL/DL Ryan Kincade(6-4 285) one of the top line prospects in
the Show-Me State.
Lafayette-- Senior
quarterback Dominic Bisesi returns after a solid junior season
in which he completed 61% of his passes for 1,762-yards and 14 touchdowns. 5-5,
5-3 a season ago, the Lancers also return big play threat William Dupont
returns as the teams leading receiver, a top rushing threat, and a big play
threat on special teams.
Parkway South-- Senior Eric Laurent returns
after and all-conference season, he passed for 1,085-yards and 10 touchdowns in
2010. Talented lineman Donell Walker returns as an anchor on both the offensive
and defensive lines. With the return of several experienced starters South hopes
to improve on their 4-6 mark of a season ago.
Oakville--
"We had a very young team last year. We had a freshman and three
sophomores starting on both sides of the ball", commented head coach Arlee
Conners. With 8 offensive and 8 defensive starters returning Oakville has
reason for optimism entering the 2011 season. Among the talented cast returning
senior QB/DB Jevon Henderson(6-2 185) is a top playmaker for
the Tigers.
Mehlville-- The Panthers were hit hard by graduation but plan
to rebuild in 2011.
Northwest-- 1-9, 1-7 in league play the Lions were outscored a
season ago 329-123.
Fox-- Brent Tinker takes over as the
head coach of the Fox program which returns to the Suburban West for the second
season after a successful run in the Mississippi Area Football Conference.
