Hope to get there Fri or Sat. Always an awesome time.

If that’s the kid from Forsyth or wherever last year, I hope not. I think he got the hometown vote to win that hahaha
There were better dunks
HaHa. I heard he has been working with Bosko and he has special dunks this year.

Staley is dipping their foot in that pool this year. They are pretty good, will be fun to see how they stack up against this competition.

Staley is a joy to watch if you haven't had the opportunity. So well coached and play as a TEAM. Really resembles good college basketball. AND they are the size of many lower tier D1 programs. 4-5 D1 players with commits or offers (Iowa State, Indiana State, Colorado State, Ole Miss)

Link played Pembroke Hill over the weekend. It was only a 15pt win and I think and I heard it was tied for awhile. Quite surprised by that. Pembroke is a threat in C5 this year, but I wasn't expecting it to be so close.

Link didn’t play everybody. They rarely do.

I saw the highlights. Holy cow on two jams off missed shots.

They aren’t even the size of 4 of the other teams in this field. 3 legit college players. The rest are bodies.

Staley is a good team, legit Class 6 contender.

Not a threat to win the TofC as it is currently constructed.

The elite prep schools where all the talent is converging these days are at a different level than Staley or anyone Staley is playing or has ever played since the school opened..

Unless you follow these kind of things, you don't realize that it is a huge difference between having three future D1 kids, and have ten Power 5 kids and a kid that is projected to be in the top five of the 2024 NBA draft on the same roster.

Kudos to Staley though for playing a tough schedule. There's no Class 3 cupcakes on their schedule and a lot of teams that want to be contenders instead of just hoodwinking parents could do well by looking. at what they're doing.

Serious question
What is the business model of these prep schools? I know there is no way these kids' parents would be paying tuition knowing they are already going to get a full ride.
Are the schools giving them scholarships hoping for a future alumni contribution? Shoe money or College donors? I haven't looked at their enrollments of these prep schools, but I imagine they don't have the paid enrollments of CBCs, Rockhursts of the world helping their books. Has to be money coming from somewhere, just curious where. Travel expenses for these schools would be extremely high as well.

They are an extension of the elite AAU teams and they’re using the same business model as the Elite AAU programs. The money is mostly coming from Nike, Under Armor, Adidas, etc.

And, some tournaments pay them to attend.

There’s not as much money in basketball as there is football overall — but there is infinitely more for the elite players and for the basketball apparel. And the markup and profitability of the apparel is insanely significant.

There are several NBA players that are going to earn $1 billion in lifetime earnings between their NBA contracts and endorsement deals. The kid in France is going to immediately add nearly $1 billion in value to the franchise that he goes to. There are guys warming the bench making more money the Walmart CEO Doug McMillen’s $22M annual salary.

There’s so much money flying around the elite NBA players that it’s insane and all that is trickling down. Just the way it is

I look at the TOC as two tournaments in one really. The winners bracket is for the elite, loaded teams in which is why national tv and huge crowds are there for. The losers bracket is essentially in its own very good high school team tournament.

Nike/adidas. And most of them have paying customers as well. Tuition at most borders on 20k for non-athletes.
