With all the Arenado trade talks...Am I the only one really concerned with his road splits? He’s obviously an elite defender and that will play in every stadium. But his offensive numbers away from that spacious Coors OF are scary to me. A pretty big package for a guy that might not be a whole lot more than Ozuna with the bat.

Agree...

Just give up the dang prospects and get him. He is a proven commodity. I begged for a trade three years ago and you ridiculed the thought of trading Reyes. How did that work out?

Pitching prospects are the most risky thing to hang onto in sports. You have no idea if they will pan out—-those are the thoughts of baseball writer Jeff Passan who wrote a book on the subject.

Hell if the Rockies will take either Fowler or Carp, I would throw in an extra prospect.

Having said all that, when is the last time the Cardinals made a deal that everyone knew was in the works? Generally, if we are hearing about it, it’s a PR ploy to make us think they tried hard.

Lastly, we need a left handed bat or two.

For every Reyes, there’s a Carlton. And part of the package that went public is an innings eating 16-game winner. That’s not a prospect. If the proven commodity didn’t have such big splits, I’d be on-board. Or at least more in favor. But he’s quite possibly the 3B version of Goldschmidt. At one more year. For double the price. Not sure that’s worth that kind of a haul.

Everyone always talks about the Lou Brock trade, but that Carlton deal was one of the worst in history. It cost STL a couple of WS in the 70s. Nightmare for a few thousand dollars.

I don’t think they will deal for him. But a repeat of that feast or famine offense from 2019 isn’t acceptable.

I think the only way they deal for him is if the opt out gets taken care of beforehand, and the package is to their liking. But after last years offensive struggles, this would be the one time I could see MO really try to reach for a deal. A lot of young prospects have moved recently with the Ozuna and Goldie deals. Add in the trades with Cleveland and Tampa too. Not sure how many more good young arms they can deal. Upgrading via free agency seems more likely.

Seems to me Castellano(sp) is the perfect signing. You don’t lose a draft pick with him.
