Archie

My junior our squad had 32 and played 11 man varsity and JV if I recollect.

My senior year at a different school we had 19 and played 11 man.

Make an 11-man schedule for Archie. It’s easier said than done. If they do consider returning to 11, will the Ozark Highlands let them join. Archie’s current league is 8-man.

Oh so it’s just a scheduling issue. That it? I guess they should hire an AD
That’s just one step… who are they going to play? Teams on the other side of the state? An AD would like a conference if they can get one. And what if they graduate a bunch and need to play 8-man for a year or so. Ask Greenfield how that strategy worked for them. They alienated their 11-man opponents and were booted out of the league. But if Archie did decide their program is solid for a return to 11-man for years to come, and I’ll admit they seem to be dominating 8-man junior high games as well, then the 11-man rivals who are bashing them need to be sure to add them to the calendar.

And no one has addressed this, but would the Ozark Highlands offer an invitation to 11-man Archie, and even Midway while they’re at it? Could this be an eventual move? Because I will agree that if any WEMO team was to return to 11, it’d be Archie. KC urban sprawl may eventually force them if they get over 150. While it’s bizarre to consider Cass County as Ozark Highlands, the league is geographically compatible.

Bald guy you make some really good points.

Sometimes you just gotta nod and smile at Chaotic. He lives in a dream world at times where everything is easy. Coaching is easy. Scheduling is easy. You should just do it this way. You should just do it that way.

Reality does not work that way.

You are right. But I do appreciate him play-by-playing this weekend.

You are welcome to your opinion as everyone is. But you do not live in reality if you think Archie can just bounce back to 11 man and it is just easy peasy. Just hire an AD. Just put an 11 man schedule together. No problemo!

Nah it dont work that way in the real world.

I am aware it’s not “easy peasy” but HS athletics and HS education in general is always a challenge and not easy peasy.

What is easy peasy is just staying in 8 man and piling it on every team you play every week, taking advantage of a system designed to allow teams that are struggling with numbers to continue playing football.

IF they wanted to go back to 11-man they could go into the West Central Conference with Midway, Lone Jack, Crest Ridge, Cole Camp, Windsor, and Lincoln. As far as scheduling there appears to be very little repercussion for not observing the second year of two-year contracts.

But unless I’m missing something why would Archie want to go back to 11-man unless they were forced to because of an increase in school size. They’re playing at a championship level and being 8-man certainly hasn’t lessened their participation level. I doubt they could care less that some people on this board don’t consider 8-man real football.

I guessing Marionville and Adrian feel the same way about winning Class .5 titles. I doubt they’re thinking “Geez, we shouldn’t feel good about this because we only have 39ish teams in our division.”

Your problem is more with MSHSAA than it is with Archie.

As long as they meet the enrollment guidelines they have every right to play 8 man.

It’s not just Archie. There’s a few of them. But I would say you’re right about my problem being more with MSHSAA allowing it than Archie.

The difference between Marionville and Adrian’s situation and Archie is that Archie chooses to play 8 man.

Marionville & Adrian can’t choose to play Class 2, they play in the 11 man classification in which their enrollment falls

What’s your solution? Limit roster size for 8-man football teams? Not sure MSHSSA members would want to set rules to limit participation.

The solution is is you’ve got enough guys for a starting lineup plus another 27 players, then you probably don’t need to be playing 8 man.

Again, this is a MSHSAA issue for allowing this to go on.

I think with you it falls on deaf ears and your just going to be inflammatory and a smartass about it so I guess it’s a moot point in discussion.

Yes kaching, there’s nothing wrong with a team with 35 players playing 8 man against teams that struggle to field a team some years.

Or hell maybe they should have unlimited co-ops so other teams can have 30-40 players and then when archie starts losing they can complain about how unfair it is and go back to 8 man.

I guess there’s more than one way to skin a cat.

One issue though is if MSHSAA lowered the enrollment number for 8-man is that some schools would be hurt. There’s another school in Archie’s conference that has a similar enrollment, but went winless last year and only squeezed one win this year. Forcing that school to also go back to 11-man would turn it into another Pleasant Hope. No easy answers.

Archie didn’t have 30+ players the years before they went 8-man. And from what I’ve been told they wouldn’t have 30+ if they went back to 11-man. Thus, the conundrum.

I am aware of this. I guess i never really understood that. As someone who has played on good teams and bad teams, if you only want to play if your team is good then what’s the point.

That’s the problem with this generation sometimes. Instant gratification, etc

Let press pause on this for a few days. Heard some tragic news out of Archie tonight. We'll wait for tomorrow to confirm but they're gonna be needing support.
