Seems like the thousands that thought spring break on the beach was much more important than this silly social distancing deal don't wanna fall in line. At least the leftwing is consistent, they always attack normal citizens. Trump goes after politicians, reporters and celebrities that can take the criticism.
This ain't normal times, the kids and the parents who are paying for most of them to do that need to get a clue.
Close the freakin beaches! They closed restaurants and other businesses all over the country that couldn't possibly have as many people congregated around each other as what I saw on TV at the beaches. I guess that was just fake news to make Trump look bad.
I listen to experts. The government employs some of the world's leading authorities on health and epidemiology, as well as economics. We should listen to them, especially when their messages align well with other nonpartisan experts.
There are a lot of scientists, doctors, etc. who are far more focused on the policy than on politics. Someone like Dr. Fauci has ably served under many administrations for a reason.
You also should note where there is consensus across R and D economists - people like Furman, Mankiw, etc. are all pushing for a major stimulus targeted at addressing unemployment and cash flow dislocations for small business. They also are not fans of the proposal to give grants to airlines or the bizarre D plan to forgive the first $10k of student loans, which is silly policy to fight a demand shock.
The majority of money should go to the small guy and Small business, Airlines nope, they can cut the fat. The student loan BS is insane.
if you create a mass panic like you want would it do us any good? What if people start to listen and stay home and the local walmart doesn't have enuff employee's to open it's door? Of you cannot get people to come in and help load trucks. You want to see panic well just keep it up you might get your wish and people will panic stay home and all hell will break free.
I get the trade off, but when the alternative is half a million people dying or something like that, people are acting very rationally when they stay home. From talking to my friends and relatives in NYC, they're afraid to leave the house as is given how bad the pandemic is. Social distancing is the only choice when the virus is that endemic in your community. Yet they have food, mail, Netflix, etc. Seamless and uber are still delivering food.
Also, everyone is already staying home here in places like St. Louis County. Walmart is fine. Schnucks is fine. The hospital is doing what they can. My trash was picked up on time and my electricity is working fine. I'm counting my blessings knowing my kids and parents are ok.
The thing is, have the experts told you that if 10,000 die in Italy (worse place so far) that would be .0017 percent of their population? That would be less than 2 one hundredths of a percent!
1. Pointing to the scoreboard in the second quarter isn't very helpful at knowing what the final result will be. Do you think Italy is topping out at 10,000 deaths? They're losing 600 people a day. That would be like 3-3.5k Americans dying every day. If 20,000 Americans were dying a week, what do you think Americans would be doing?

Two weeks ago the genie was out of the bottle in Italy. The death toll is likely not changed that much just spread out more (some lives saved too but not that much different).
The Italy cases number is leveling off and 10,000 is a big jump from where it is now.
Double it to 20K and do the math if you want, it won't make a shocking change in the percentage. Would 3 one hundredths of a percent be scary?

HMM Nobody is saying it's not a big deal or people shouldn't take precautions, but at what point is the Cure doing more damage to the host than the disease? Roughly 13 thousand died from the Swine flu in 09. I do think the C19 total will eclipse that but I can't recall anything more than blurb on the News and the MSM writing Fluff articles about how Great Obama was in his do nothing calm approach to the outbreak. No social distancing,no crisis of shutting down every business etc.
I've said numerous times it's a bad bug! I don't want it and don't want anyone I know to get it but there is a greater chance of dying in a car crash this year than dying of covid 19 this year. The threat doesn't justify the reaction!

Really this is where you are going...More Virtue signaling....First the unborn are innocent and don't warrant death for being a inconvenience. But with that said I have zero skin in that game. It's the law so it's legal. I'm not into the abortion fight but clearly there is a vast difference in the unborn dying and those who have lived and have health issues that allow this virus to kill them.
Second the majority of the deaths are from those with pre conditions that leads to their death. The issue is that long term people who are being tabled for So Called elective surgeries are suffering and that delay could also lead to a reduced life span. Add in the Economic long term loss of income,healthcare do to loss of jobs and all the other issues that arise from this on coming depression and the Suffering form the Cure could easily be more devastating than the disease.

there’s a lot of uncertainty in all of this. But there’s this magical, bad idea seeming to form that this lockdown is only about preventing 50,000 deaths or something like that. That seems like a really bad conclusion to draw based upon Milan and Madrid - if something like 120 M Americans were to get this, the death toll wouldn’t be in the tens of thousands. And holy cow this thing seems to be really good at spreading as far as we can tell. That’s what makes this so much tougher than the first SARS or something like Ebola.
