All you can hear right now in webb city are crickets

Carl is very athletic. They will be a hand full for any team and their defense is solid . That being said , Webb had 11 possessions, 6 fumbles , 1 pick , 2 punts , 1 turnover on downs on 2 consecutive dropped snaps inside the 5 and a TD . Tough to beat anybody that way but perhaps it was because the carl defense. We have a lot of time to figure that out .

Personally I thought CJ almost played too conservative last night, especially in the third quarter when the game was still in doubt.

Way early................but nice to know we won't (as I pointed out last year nobody from Webb posted it just other "geniuses") have to endure any one-team-race threads (unless CJ keeps this going). I just hope Kearney can avoid the injury bug that has been a big, hidden issue the past two years.

One of Kearney's greatest assets is their ability to play physical football day in and day out.
With a small school enrollment however it sometimes becomes one of their greatest weaknesses come playoff time.

Don't blame turnovers. CJ was only plus 2. Forty eight yards rushing won't cut it. Two of twelve on 3rd down???
Agree. CJ offense didn't have a good night either between turnovers and penalties. It is early in the year, and both offenses will get a lot better. But you also might have been watching two good defenses that deserve a lot of credit.

Have not heard anyone say if it was raining during the Webb/CJ game...

Only +2 does make a difference, plus there were several fumbled snaps including twice after 1st and goal.

I do agree with the general point that regardless WC was not having much success on the ground. CJ was just the better team Friday night. As ugly a performance as WC had the game wasn't given away. CJ won it.

Also as far as weather it was warm and both sides had to deal with dehydration, cramps, etc but it was not a factor in the game.

It sprinkled for less than 5 minutes at one point. Not enough to matter.

Thanks, just thought maybe both sides were being to hard on themselves .

If possible, Art; (Tophat) and myself will try to make it to the rematch.

If your there perhaps we could meet and eat at a local whatever.???

Guess I need to be a little nicer from here on out...

Thanks Again Gubbba Bump Shrimp:)

Cj was more than + 2 in turnovers. Unless my count was off but I don't remember cj having 5 turnovers . I could be wrong

At any rate; this week should be interesting .. Cj has a very good republic team and webb has a big rival in Carthage ...

No problem. Yeah we could meet up if there's a rematch.

Webb 4 fumbles 2 Interceptions. CJ. 2 Fumbles. 2 Interceptions.
I'm just saying that +2 turnovers can be overcome. Three to six (not so much.)

The Joplin Globe article said WC had 8 turnovers, thought I thought it was 7.

But just so I'm clear. I'm not meaning to give the impression that CJ didn't stifle WC on offense or force a lot of those turnovers. It was the least success I've seen WC have running the ball in years.

About the only silver lining is the defense held up so well for WC despite being on the field most of the night.

I got that off the Maxpreps box score

Wow! 7 Turnovers! Surprised Webb Kept it that close if they turned it over that much.

Yikes. Chalk this game off to a fluke and move the heck on. I'm sure holding the ball will be reinforced considerably this week in practice.

If I hadn't watched the game I might have chalked it off to a fluke but CJ's defense controlled the game up front on WC's offensive line. Even without the turnovers WC was having difficulty moving the ball on the ground. That's not to say that with coaching and putting in the work that the offense won't improve but CJ was the stronger team Friday night and they earned the W.

How many years has Correl (sp?) been retired?

Didnt have anything to do with coaching. In my opinion had more to do with size and what looked to be inexperience at QB. Point being there the QB has got to make reads and know when to keep the rock. The line didnt look (our Oline) to be that stout but to be effective you still cant feed the ball into a rbs hand hitting a hole every play when there aint no hole. Not sure how many plays the QB pulled it and ran but it seemed to be few. Hopefully getting some experience will change that but not knowing these young men I dont know if they have the athletiscm or not to run it as well as weve been accustomed. Lowest rushing total for a WEBB team I can remember and we have faced some outstanding Defensive lines that outbigged and outmanned us upfront many times. JROD Smitty and the boys will get it figured out as they have many times but its definately going to be a challenge unless the nerves were really that bad game one. I thought the D played well considering they gave up 7 on a deep ball on CJs first play.

A lot of those "reads" were non reads and straight gives do to the way it was supposed to be blocked. So the ball is given when there is no read, but the play was blown up due to Carl Junction's dline, making it look like a misread.

I definitely underestimated CJ overall and overestimated Webb City's ability to put the pieces together and grind it out. CJ didn’t give up or fall apart in this one, even when the momentum seemed to be shifting in Webb's favor. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens moving forward with both those teams.

Again , they had their chances but turnovers and mistakes killed them . They don't make the plays webb city always seems to make . For example ..last play of the first half ..webb first and goal on the half yd line w 7 seconds left and no time outs ...they go for it understandably and get stuffed

I think the offense did improve this week though turnovers in first half were very costly. Plus being stuffed on the 1 to end the half was huge.

I don't think the defense played as well. Seemed like there were more missed tackles this week.

It is just week 2 so the season isn't over yet but WC is going to have to improve on both sides of the ball.

Meanwhile, Neosho just beat Ozark, who just beat Carthage a week ago.

My opinion is at this point CJ is the clear favorite in the COC. That's not to say they might lose one game but I can see them running the table. After that I don't see a lot of difference from the rest of the teams.

Agreed, the way things look right now Neosho has to be considered the #2 at this point.

I'll believe WC isn't good enough to be in the final when I see it happen. Until then you can talk fumbles, crickets, line bla bla.
You can be sure the opposing side of cardinal stadium will be packed the entire season. It will be interesting to see how the coaching staff adjusts.

Other than the overall record I would agree

4 turnovers in first half

I'll stick with that statement. These games only matter if no one learns from them.
