They played very well defensively. Webb looked pretty bad with I don't know how many turnovers. Hope we can get some of that fixed
Webb looked pretty good on defense , offense has a long ways to go . 8 fumbles , 6 lost and threw a pick . They never got any kind of offensive rhythm and it seemed like they were on defense all night.
There isn't much to say. I think maybe 8 turnovers and CJ pretty much shut down WCs running game. WC defense I thought played real well. Bottom line is WC has a lot of work to do.
It will be interesting to see how both teams will respond. I'm sure Webb will come back stronger than ever and get that stuff fixed. Can CJ handle the success? Next week's game vs Republic will say a lot about CJ. The good thing for this Bulldog fan is that the fear of Webb City (but not the respect) may now be gone. It should be one heck of a rematch in the playoffs!
Definate WEBB homer but also one of our biggest critics. The Oline and QBs have a ton of work to do. I agree on our Defense. I think they played alright and will as will most just get bettter. I havent seen a WEBB oline with less push in decades and I personally didnt think I was watching a "great" team in CJ. Good but definately not great. Hard to play option with not much line play or good reads from the QB. Officiating was horrid especially on the 4th down debacle but really had nothing to do with the outcome. Lotta work to do in WEBB but I think round two will be much different..

I believe if there is an inadvertent whistle the play is a do over no matter what. So even though we tipped the pass and picked it off and there was no pass interference since the red blew the whistle by mistake CJ got to replay the down. Correct call but a sucky rule
I'll let Kearney know their win over Fort Osage was unimpressive. Lamar will also disappointed that their 50-0 win tonight was for naught.
I have friends on both sides of WC/CJ so I was neutral, other than I picked CJ to win this one. But what was the deal with pulling Senior QB Ensminger out after he threw a touchdown pass and Webb had a big momentum swing? They sent a junior in, Link I believe was his name and he threw an interception and gave all the momentum back to Carl Junction.
Plan was to rotate quarterbacks till they figure out who steps up . Neither really ran the ball much at all. I was a bit surprised how many times they passed honestly and on the flip side ; I thought cj should have threw more

I have said what I am about to say after a few WC wins in the past so don't get your panties in a wad but... I'm not really sure how good or bad either team is. Both teams had so many dumb mistakes.
In the end, CJ made the plays they had to. I hope we get to do this again.

100% agree and no offense to Carthage but I'm very happy that WC is traveling to Carthage next week and not say Rockhurst or Har-Ber.
Well you have had since last year to get it fixed. I see your still having issues with holding on to the ball. You don't win many games that way.

True champions overcome, and they finish. It seems a district rematch is very likely. We'll see which team overcomes their first game jitters better, although it is clear the Webb squad had more of those yesterday. It was a game in which the team with the least mistakes won. They're young men, some of them getting their first Friday night test. It is two good teams right here in Joplin Metro and Jasper County.
I guess when Webb loses any other teams wins are unimpressive. Of course when Webb beats anyone it's the most impressive game on earth.
Well I understand stats are a bad thing on Mosports for whatever reason but seems like common sense to me. I have not seen numbers from the game nor care to but I would be very suprised if last nights game wasnt the lowest offensive yardage output WEBB has had in the last 10 years. I guess you could come back with "maybe CJs D is that good" and I think most would chuckle. Plain and simple WEBBs oline got stood up all night and the QBs albeit may be from inexperience seldomly kept the rock either by misreading or just not having the want or ability to do something with it on their own. I cant remember the last time WEBB when outmatched upfront didnt have a QB that ran the ball very well. Might have been some first game jitters but dont just look at the score and say wow CJ must be a great team. WEBB had the ball around the 5 with 4 minutes left down 16. Score get the onside kick and still although small still have a shot. We fumbled on the snap 2 out of 4 plays and the TE dropped a pretty easy TD. WEBB has some standout players. I really liked the ILBer and with two seasons under his belt Vanlue has proven to be a very good RB but unless the line improves a bunch it will be a very long season for the CARDS..
Yep,,,I kind of chuckled when Buckmaster said they had just beaten the best. If CJ won last year they would have beaten the second best,,,,if CJ had won the five years before that they would have beaten the best. The team CJ beat last night was not a very good team so he really shouldn't be thinking he beat the best by any means. No doubt it was a great win for their kids and community though
I agree any time you beat a team you havent beaten in 20-30 years its a great win. And give the Bulldog faithful credit they didnt act like a bunch of hoodlums afterwards like at cTOWN in 07. I think CJ will make some noise in conference but of course will be hoping for someone to knock them off so WEBB can still have a shot at Champion...

Way early................but nice to know we won't (as I pointed out last year nobody from Webb posted it just other "geniuses") have to endure any one-team-race threads (unless CJ keeps this going). I just hope Kearney can avoid the injury bug that has been a big, hidden issue the past two years.
I think ill revise my cj prediction now. Football is a game of confidence and momentum and rebuilding year or not they just slayed the giant and told the coc to pay attention. I think they still drop one or two but not the 500 season i had orignally thought. Crows not half bad deep fried
I think chances are very good CJ runs the table in the COC. I have a hard tiime seeing them lose more than 1 game. That's not to say they won't have some tough games but WCs issues notwithstanding CJ played very well on defense and they have a lot of speed at WR and RB. CJ has to be the clear COC favorite at this point.
Congrats to CJ on a good win. Webb has a long road ahead of hard work and determination if they want to have a shot at the playoffs. Just because you lose a few games during the season doesn't mean you can't compete at the end of the season when it counts. I'll take district champs over conf. champs any year. CJ is working hard to build a quality program and have done well, don't take that hard work away from those kids as they deserve that win. I was told by a great coach a long time ago the team with the least mistakes will win the majority of football games. Webb was by far the team with the most mistakes last night and you know the outcome. I think the Webb kids will rise to the challenge and you will see them grow into a quality squad towards the end of the season.
CJ won't run the table in the COC. They had too many mistakes and miscues last night and against better teams, they will be punished for it. Webb fumbled 8 times, lost by 2 scores. A better team would have made Webb pay. CJ made the plays that Webb didn't, plain and simple. I do not think they were the best between the two but I saw two teams that need a lot more practice and experience. Both D's looked great though. Felt bad for the CJ kid that was helped off the floor. Rumour is ACl, as a Senior, tough going for that guy. Webb will be fine. First game, out of the way, now no pressure. CJ acted like it was their State Title game and for them, it was. Congrats to them. In my 33 years, I've only had to see CJ and Carthage beat Webb once. I'll take that record. Webb will only get better, nothing to sound the alarm about right now.
When was the last time Webb City had a losing streak? I say that as a compliment in addition to really wanting to know the last time they lost two consecutive games.
