Email me next year I will hook you upDang! I was hoping to get them today to publish locals (Princeton and Mercer) in this week's paper, which prints Wednesday a.m. If they had any make it, that is.
I will take you up on that. Thanks.Email me next year I will hook you up
That’s a good question. I wish I knew the answer. Academic All-State is different qualifications for different sports, too. I don’t know why on that one, either. Why is basketball all-state voting a completely different animal than football? Those coaches meet and nominate players and vote. Why is the All-District ballot what is taken to MBCA?

Which is also harder for Basketball with a 27 on ACT. I see others sports and we’ve got 9-10 people on academic all state.
I think it’s a poor system for All-state and not truly showing.
There is a panel of 8 coaches in each class who get together to vote on the weekend of the state tournament. This year they didn't for Class 4/5 due to the health situation so they met via zoom or conference all.My initial question stands and was all I wanted an answer on.
Someone responded and added the academic all-state portion. Not sure why the testing scores wouldn’t be the same across sports.
To further on my initial thought on all-state and give more explanation. I understand how it works, I was merely asking why it’s not votes by coaches in person as football does?
Also, I think one district could have let’s say 3-4 players better than another districts #1 voted best player. That #4 player from the first district may not even get mentioned by the MBCA instead that other player gets recognized from a district maybe not as good top to bottom.
I’m not complaining just confused by the lack of similarity between sports.
Too many times at the district level, coaching buddies will work the system with each other to get their kids on the team. While doing so, they alter the course of rankings in the district voting, therefore if you are not one of the top 2 kids, most usually you will not get selected. If a player was all-state the year before, they are automatically on the all-state team. Also, there are kids on the all-state team that were injured and never participated in the district tournament and wind up making all state. How does that happen? You are talking about 2 completely different issues.
Academic all-state. The MBCA has held high standards and only allows seniors.
All-State
I guess I need a better explanation of why it's a "poor system for All-state and not truly showing." They vote on kids at the district level where they know them best and rank them. They use the rankings from districts as "part of their evaluation tool" to do the best job possible.
Every year there are a handful who feel left out...same with the media team.
Please list the example and others because I have been in on those meetings and that is first thing that was looked at, if a player was all state the year before.Again, nothing is going to be perfect and MBCA does do a great job. I look at St. Elizabeth that was at the final four back to back years and only get 1 all state player because of the district voting. Not only that, but I can think of at least one example (class 2) this season where a senior did not receive All-State who did receive it as a junior.
I'm all about transparency, consistency, and improving things but MBCA does a good job with this. And they're the only game in town. If the media has dropped the ball and doesn't want to put in the effort to name All-State teams each year then thankfully we have MBCA doing it.
Football does it the same as basketball as far as voting goes. A coach is the representative of their district and gets advise from head coaches about who and what position they want to nominate. Football head coaches can (at 1 time) drive down and talk about their player, but only the Rep for the district gets to vote. Make sense? My initial question stands and was all I wanted an answer on.
