They've been way out front of other teams in the division when playing in the division for a good while. Now that most of their have been in the division it's really showing up.

No kidding! Another AWESOME outing from Shelby tonight too. It's like the wealth of pitching is back. Wacha healthy (I just knocked on some serious wood...boy, somebody needs to take a rip at that one) and Shelby back to being Shelby...hopefully. Color me happy!!! Bench looks much better now that Grichuck seems to have figured it out. Not trying to put the cart before the horse...but take a look at the potentials for playoff roster...

Pitchers
Waino, Lynn, Wacha, Lackey, Miller, Maness, Freeman, Seigrest, Choate, Motte, Martinez, Neshek, Rosie, Lyons, and Gonzalez...that's 15 guys...gotta think at max 13, and more likely 12 (I still think that's one too many) make it. Pretty easy to say Lyons and Gonzalez get left out. Seigrest or Motte? Can't believe they'd both be on the roster.

Position players
Yadi, AJ, Cruz, Adams, Wong, Descalso, Peralta, Kozma, Ellis, Carp, Holiday, Jay, Bourjos, Grichuck, and Taveras. That's 15 more. I like keeping three catchers, especially with Cruz's flexibility in the field. And it allows AJ to be a lefty bat off the bench with a little pop. So who gets left out? Kozma (who I like for defense and wheels) and Ellis? Doesn't leave a ton of flexibility on the IF. But I don't think you can leave off Grichuck or OT.

Anybody know anything about the pitcher they called up? I don't keep up with the minor league teams like some of you but I can't recall ever hearing him mentioned on any game broadcasts? They say they called up the other guys because they had to put them on the 40 man roster to protect them. Does that mean Piscotty can be stolen in the Rule 5 draft?

Matheny's teams are 28-11 vs. the division since 2011, in September.

That was true of Sammy T and Pham. Garcia was already on 40 man, I think.

Don't think so. I think Piscotty only has three years of pro baseball. Dodgers drafted him at 18 yrs old, but he didn't sign. Birds drafted him a few years later. He'd have to have four years of pro ball service to be Rule 5 eligible...at least I think. Rumor probably knows this one better than me.

Big big big arm. Throws 100mph and then some. K rate of over 1.5. Drafted as a middle IF'er, I think. Only been pitching for a couple years. Started the year in Palm Beach, promoted to Spfd around the ASB, and finished the season in Memphis once the playoffs began and the big club promoted some of the Memphis pitchers. He had to be added to 40 man to protect from Rule 5. I think Garcia was already on the 40 man.

If signed at 18...5 years and you're eligible if not on 40man

If signed at 19 (+)...4 years

So I guess I still don't know if Piscotty is protected or not since I have no idea how old he was when he signed.
