But....um....these current NFL players aren't:

Beau Brinkly (of the NFL Titans), Kearney, MO Bulldogs
Will Compton (of the Oakland Raider) North County HS
Xavier Williams ( of the KC Chiefs) Grandview, MO Bulldogs
Drew Lock (of the Denver Bronos) Lee's Summit Tiger
Devonte Bausby (of the Denver Broncos) Hogan Prep
Even Boehm ( of the Miami Dolphins) Lee's Summit Tiger
Charles Harris (of the Miami Dolphins) Lincoln Prep, Blue Tiger
*Edited. Justin Britt, (Seattle Seahawks) Lebanon, MO

And three-time NCAA D1 National Champ, and Super Bowl Champion, Grant Wistrom (Webb City Cardinal) just called....he was laughing out loud.

North County is in the metro area, granted on the farthest outskirts.

What is the point of this? I am being serious, does it bother you this much, that as of right now, St. Louis has a lot of kids with D1 offers?

STL has been in a very up talent cycle for a few years now. That being said there was one Raytown Blue Jay (#8) who I would not be surprised to see playing on Sundays in a few years............

Adrian Clayborn - Webster Groves
Sheldon Richardson - Gateway
Brandon Williams - Kirkwood
Maurice Alexander - Eureka
Christian Kirksey - Hazelwood East
Markus Golden - Affton
Blaine Gabbert - Parkway West

Do I need to keep going?

Because douchetrolls on here keep claiming all the athletic talent in the state of Missouri resides in St. Louis, despite the fact their teams only win about 30% of the state titles in football, and Kansas City dominates track and field (by definition--athletic competition.): Winning four the past six titles in the two biggest classes.

There are only 7 current players from St. Louis. You can't keep going.

Wow you're insufferable. The only person who keeps bringing it up is YOU.

Like 45 miles. Again if Kansas City gets to claim Odessa (36 miles) then St. Louis can claim North County.

Odessa is less than 30 miles from the city limit of Kansas City, and plays in a conference with Excelsior Springs, Harrisonville, Oak Grove, Pleasant Hill...ALL in the KC metro area. God, you need to learn geography. Look at a map.

Technically speaking, FWIW, if you search on what is considered part of the KC metropolitan statistical area (same with STL too), Odessa is considered part of the KC metropolitan area. The KC metro consists of about 14 counties (KS side included in that). STL has about the same number of counties considered as part of their metropolitan area

Really? Because your buddy BP's thread is the only reason I made this thread. Read more.

Is the health of your self esteem really so contingent on who produces better athletes that you MUST respond to ANY perceived slight against Kansas City?

Who cares if St. Louis or Kansas City produces better athletes, I'm just glad kids from this state have an opportunity to represent the state at a high level. Wish more of them would represent at Mizzou, but in either case I'm happy for all of them.

Grow up.

There is a huge difference between D1 talent and a team winning a state title. For example, Webster Groves has a DE that is going to go to Oklahoma, he's pretty good, Webster as a team isn't. Does he make the team better, sure, but not enough to overcome the other 10 players.

Your logic is not sound.

Right now, if you use recruitment as a metric of football talent, then yes, right now St Louis has a significant portion of talent. You can't equate team standings to individual recruitment, especially is football.

It's sound when someone says St. Louis "dominates track and field." Which is what was claimed. To which I pointed out, that St. Louis in fact DOES NOT dominate track and field, in any sense. That was a separate issue.

You're missing 2 from SWMO

Lucky for us there are people who actively keep track of such things:

— The data used is simply active players on NFL rosters. It doesn't speak to the quality of the player. A lot of that is subjective anyway.

— There are 28 active players in the NFL from Missouri. That number is 19th overall, exactly where it should be as the 18th most populated state.

— There are 14 players from schools that I would consider commonly referred to as STL-area schools.

— There are nine players from schools that I would consider Kansas City area schools.

— The rest of the state, including Jefferson City, Rogersville, Lebanon, etc., has five.

— For context, Miami has 41 players currently in the NFL from just 18 different schools. Miami, population 463,000, and Kansas City, population 488,000, essentially has the same population.

Belle Glades Central a public school just north of the Everglades, with an enrollment of 992, in a city of 17,000, has had 23 players in the NFL and currently has five.

The small agricultural communities in central and south Florida (Homestead, Immokolee, etc.,etc.) consistently produce more football talent than any other place in the country per population.

Those communities are also among the poorest in Florida.

That's the raw data.

My theory on outdoor athletics and successful athletes is simple, hard times + warm weather = tough athletes.

That's true in football where the poorest communities in the south produce a lot more talented athletes than their more comfortable counterparts in the north.

And it's true in a sport like baseball where small island countries with small populations and virtually no resources, produce more than a quarter of all the players in MLB.

It's true in track and field where small island countries do considerably well given their population in comparrison to their counterparts at the Olympics.

And, while I know less about it, the same probably true in a sport like soccer as well.

Of Floray's many many great posts he did a pre-season one circa 2010 rating all 50 states in 5-6 tiers. We and several others went back and forth where MO etc. belonged. MAN I wish I could find that again...............

Great post, by the way, mowesten!

Great post, by the way, mowesten!

Thanks.

I mostly just wanted to point out that there is actual data surrounding this particular topic, which I’m sure most people don’t realize exists. Comparing the data in Missouri to the places that are at the top of the heap puts it in context as well.

I think the whole point of the topic originally wasn’t necessarily to put the subject in its proper context with data, but rather to promote a narrative, and then present incomplete facts to advance the narrative.

I could care less about Kansas City and St. Louis, I lived in or really close to both places once upon a time, and really enjoyed my time in both places.

However, I found them both to be equally cold in the winter.

Winter + Warm Weather = Better Life. That's just me.
