Looks like he is on his way to his 11th win tonight. In games he doesnt start, the Rangers are .500. In games he starts, they are 6 games over. Its all just a coincidence........ An innings eating SOB. The opposite of Wacha. And we let him walk. 3.98 ERA. Wacha? 5.54

And thank god we didnt sign Josh Donaldson as a FA and instead gave up prospects for Goldie. It will be fun watching Donaldson in the playoffs.

Goldie looked like a very good deal both offensively and defensively and he IS helping on the defensive end. I have no idea what is wrong with him now but he was a good a signing by all accounts. If he cranks it up in the 2nd half the way this division is going he could help carry them to the playoffs, along with Ozuna when he comes back. If you get there who knows what might happen.

I think Goldy will post a strong 2nd half. But, it's difficult to see the team capable of going on a significant streak of any kind that will allow them to catch and then separate from the rest of the Central.

But, who can say with certainty? The talent is there. Will be fun watching it all unfold.

Or it could be frustrating to watch. The starting pitching has the lowest K-rate and worst BB/K ratio in baseball. The bullpen is saving their bacon. They need a top starter. Lance Lynn used to be a 4th starter. We let him go and he has a lower ERA than 4 current STL starters.

Yes, it could be frustrating instead of fun.

RE: Lance Lynn - yes, his ERA is lower now. Let's see if that continues. Let's see if his health holds up. Maybe....maybe not. Time will tell. I do miss him on the staff, though.

The rest of the division sure ain't runnin away with it, I can't see why would take a substantial streak to put them in a position to be there at the end.

My fear is the other clubs will make personnel moves in an attempt to better themselves, while Mo and Cards “GM” will stand pat. No moves are a guarantee to get you over the hump, but too many times we’ve seen Mo do nothing and nothing happens.

Worst thing they can do is stand pat. But Gordo had a good article yesterday about their situation. Not a lot of flexibility. Mikolas/Marp extensions were senseless and are hurting currently. Fowler's contract is a crater job. Along with Cecil and countless other crap reliever signings. Got fleeced on almost every trade the last three years. Have big Goldy contract and he's not producing. Best hitter is a DH and probably doesn't have much value. Best power hitter is in a walk year, but is hurt. I'm afraid Mo is going to hold on to Ozuna, then not resign (btw, not real excited about that prospect) him. And now have about one of the worst minor league systems in all of baseball. So no depth. Options are to try and flip some of the crap heap (and eat the money) to get some offensive help and a pitcher, and resign Ozuna. Or trade Ozuna and JMart at the deadline to a contender. Hope like hell Marp gets on a run and they can flip him too, but that seems unlikely. That contract might go down as bad as Fowler. Speaking of needing to dump and eat money. Problem is, Bader can't hit. O'Neill can't make contact. JMart is pretty lousy at anything that doesn't involve raking. Meanwhile Mercado, Voit, Piscotty, Grichuck, and Pham all seem to be performing better than current options. This team is a year or two away from being in a really, really bad spot. Like late 80s/early 90s bad spot.

Problem with Carp is IF he gets hot they will NOT seek to trade him, they think HE is the key to any kind of success they might find. If he doesn't he ain't goin anywhere either.

And therein lies a problem. I agree, they obviously think he’s the key. They have to, given the extension. I just disagree with their evaluation. At this point, I really think they need to sell at the deadline. And part of a profitable sale is Marp getting hot and then getting something for him. Same for Fowler, JMart, and Ozuna. They’re in serious trouble with this offense. Freeing up Marp and Fowler money would be huge moving forward. Can’t have Bader, Wong, Molina, Fowler, and Marp all sucking in a lineup. Just craters the offense. At this point, I think all of those guys are what they are currently. Marp might get a bit better. Bader too. But not really enough to stand pat.
