I was doing research for our website and came across this information today.
The first night game ever played in Missouri was on Friday, October 11, 1929 at 8 p.m. at College Stadium in Warrensburg, Mo. The game was between Central Missouri State Teachers College and Missouri Valley College. Admission to the game was $1.

Good info., I always appreciate and enjoy your posts on Missouri's football history. Keep up the good work!!!

Since I love sports history ... Quickly name the first college/university in Missouri (four-year school) to win a national football championship?

Ding, ding, ding ... We have a winner, winner, chicken dinner.

For the daily double, who did they beat? What was the score and where was the game played? The last one is a real kicker and important history to Missouri football ...

I know it was in Joplin but don't know score or opponent.

Missouri Southern defeated Northwestern, Iowa 21-14 at Junge Stadium in Joplin for the 1972 NAIA Division II National Football Championship, the first college national football championship earned by an institute of higher learning in Missouri.

I enjoy talking/learning/discussing sports history. Further question on the first college football game under the lights in Missouri ... does anyone have a box score or an original program from that game? Either item would be a historical item.

An extra note about the 1972 team ... Missouri Southern traveled to Las Vegas and played UNLV, and won 7-0.

When I found out that Mo Southern had one, I did an educated guess and checked out Liincoln University which in some accounts was the national champion in 1952 among the historically black colleges. However, the Lincoln U website listed them as second so not sure what was going on there.

Doesn't MO Valley College claim a "national title" from the 1940's?
