41-40 Joplin Final

Helps that Joplin is peaking (2018-now) and joined the COC in that peak right after Webb City is down (only by their standards) from the peak of 2010-15.

I was texting with tophat during the game and I told him, I'm glad Joplin is asserting itself. SWMO has always needed that Class 6 team that could contend each year.

Webbs top two wr ..Vaden and Garrard didn't dress and probably won't for a few weeks . They would have helped but that's not why wc lost . Joplin is very good . Special teams were pretty shitty for Webb and they chased points too early after the missed pat. Teams looked fairly even . Webb tackled like crap and had a hard time lining up in time due to how fast Joplin runs their offense . Great game . Fairly clean and could have went either way . Both these teams are pretty special on offense and both definitely need work on d and special teams

Webb cuts back on the missed tackles and terrible special teams and they win that game somewhat comfortably, 14 points at least. Kids weren't prepared. Webb had Joplin on several occasions in the backfield or minimal game and couldn't get the job done.

Pump the brakes. Joplin Probably won’t contend in Class 6 this year but hats off to them for taking it to WC tonight.

Maybe not but at least need them to be good every year, not a pushover like in previous years. Stay relevant and all.

Agreed. Glad to be complaining about this than the other stuff I have been the last few months.

They are very well coached and they are definitely improved over where they have been the last 25-30 years.

just nice to see joplin competitive vs webb and Carthage as of late unlike years in the past. great measuring stick vs most class 6 teams joplin face in the playoffs. hopefully joplin will get a couple home games but dont see them advancing too deep but who knows.

How about Joplin is a pretty good team and has come a long way over the last few years. Lets give credit where credit is due boys. I know that's hard for ya. When was the last time any team beat Webb two years in a row? You guys put an asterisk on last years win because of the situation. As usual when you are a Webb fan its what we did to lose the game not that we might have been beat by a better team.. You guys got bit by the "We have a D1 commit bug" Your kids thought he was gonna run all over Joplin and he had a pretty good game personally but as we know their is no "I" in team.

I believe I read a majority of posts complimenting Joplin, and a few stating what Webb needs to work on i.e. tackling, and special teams. Offensively Webb did what Webb does year after year, run the ball and put up 40 a game. Missed extra points were the difference, in no way did either team dominate the other. Webb will have a long year if they don’t fix the tackling issue. And Joplin won’t be as sucessful if they play a good team that can tackle.

Glades?
Yeah...kind of flew underneath the public radar last year Westmoreland and Davis running around, but he’s a bonafide load.
Jordan Burton with The O-Zone said pregame that Glades is a D-1 talent.

Joplin will contend. The only team I don't see them beating is De Smet just like last year but probably will give them a game just like last year. Otherwise, I can see them beating the Kirkwood's, the Marquette's, the CBC's, and the Kansas City schools.

Joplin is super talented on offense . They are going to be hard to beat . Two biggest turning points last night ...1) Webb up 13-7 and drops a sure pick 6 .
2) Letting Joplin score in the final min of the first half .
Neither team could really stop each other so that was huge

Question for Joplin fans ...does the Roberts-Day kid that's committed to Baylor start? I never heard his name during the game

Turns out it WASNT just a 1 year wonder like the Webbies told us last year. Joplin, without Davis and without Westmoreland, with no special talent on the roster Ran through Webb like bad potato Salad. I guess 2020 really has been weird

Well getting to watch the game on TV I don’t think if I was class6 Joplin I would feel that great about beating Class4 Webb by an extra point. If that was even an average Webb defense last night Joplin would have been hurting.

On the other hand Webb played a below average game and lost to Class6 runner up by a point on the road without their fans allowed to attend.

Only thing I didnt understand was why 9 for Webb didn’t get more carries in the second half?

Have a feeling both may go deep in their classes and just lucky to be playing

9 was fighting cramps bad second half . That's why he didn't get many carries . I assume Webb will be class 5 and Joplin will certainly be class 6 . Joplin will definitely make a deep run again . Webb ....depends if Carthage is class 5 or 6 and if they can beat them .Carthage is pretty special this year as well

The soph rb/lb from Carthage is a freak ...so is their qb and their o line should be pretty good too . Carthage doesn't have the numbers to completely two platoon and they could get worn down late in games or hurt bad by injuries but they are really good

It's looking like Carthage will actually stay Class 5 this year as a number of large Saint Louis schools [Saint Charles Francis Howell (Nondirectional), Cedar Hill Northwest, Wentzville Timberland and Saint Charles Francis Howell Central] have decided to play after all. Carthage is a bit low on numbers this year which is why they have kids playing both sides of the ball coming off of a state championship, but only 82 kids out.

i don’t buy the Class 6 vs Class 4 line. First WC is almost certainly Class 5 now so i don’t think it is a moral victory. Joplin has ever right to feel great about beating WC back to back years. Few schools in the past 30+ years have done so.

There is plenty on talent on both teams. Part of it was probably week 1 showing up but it wasn’t anything like the contest last year. Both teams have a lot of work to beat a team like Carthage. Assuming we have a full season I imagine there will be a lot of improvement.

Both teams are really talented and will be fine. Webb had 7 new starters on Defense and Joplin isn’t an ideal game to open with due to the speed they operate at offensively. No excuses here Webb will get better and adjust to the speed of Friday nights and be just fine. Joplin was impressive offensively, they are actually more diverse this year and will be a handful for anyone in the state.

The Ozone said it was the first time in 17 years that Webb had lost to the same team two years in a row. Lat team was Kearney. Did they win state both of those years?

Those losses both came in the playoffs.
