Worth County won its 7th 8-man title.

CBC won its 2nd Class 6 title.

Valle Catholic is seeking its 15th state title. While Monroe City looks to win its 3rd title.

Lamar will be going after its 7th straight title. As Lafayette County is seeking its 1st state title in school history.

Maryville will be playing for their 5th state title in program history. Mount Vernon is looking for their 2nd title in program history.

Webb City is seeking state title number 14 all-time. Laude Horton Watkins looks to become a 1st time champion.

The Staley Falcon go after the schools 2nd state title against Pattonville seeking its 1st state

Anyone know the record for longest time between Show-Me Bowl appearances? Mt. Vernon at 35 has to be up there. Plus their head coach is the same now as it was then. Crazy!

Longest stretches between title wins.

Richmond 1971 and 2010 (39 years)
Monett 1977 and 2016 (39 years)
South Shelby 1970 and 2006 (36 years)
Orrick 1975 and 2007 (32 years)

If Mount Vernon win it will be (46 years) between titles 1971 and 2017.

Mount Vernon's championship was in 78 at Country Day. The last appearance was against Valle in 82 at Arrowhead.

Is this a rematch of Maryville and Mount Vernon from 35 years ago. Pretty sure Maryville's first title was in 1982.
Valle beat Mount Vernon 37-0 in Class 2 1982. It was Valle's 27th straight win, Eric Bauman had 267 yards rushing
Maryville won the Class 3 title over Duchesne 23-0 in 1982. Duchesne had 4 turnovers in the first half.

Thanks for the clarification

Interesting how schools get bigger, smaller, or stat the same over time.

HOF Coach Dan Henderson was at Mt. Vernon for about 10 years starting in the mid 90s.

He IS salty!
Is he worse than coach Thompson?

At the Glendale vs Poo game last year Thompson was on the field giving the ref what for, laden with expletives. Then the F word is spouted and the ref finally throws the flag. I'm thinking he earned that one. When the call came it was only a sideline warning. Toothless. If the refs were to penalize these coaches 15 yards for unsportmanlike that behavior it would be greatly reduced.
Btw, I am not saying the coach shouldn't get hot, yell or challenge the ref on bad calls but there should be a line drawn reflective of the sportmanship we prefer to be seen as an example for our youth. I know if I were a ref, I would tolerate little and if they didn't like it they could sit in bewilderment as to why there is a shortage of good refs.

I suspect the rumors we heard mid-season about kids walking etc stemmed from kids and maybe parents chaffing at his 'style'. Heard from a parent they 'didn't like his style'. Probably explains why they struggled as a team at times this season. Always love to see success in the Big 8 but Coach Cox has always ??? danced the line between gritty football and dirty football. And, yes, would be tough to tolerate at times by officials.
If I want to be fair in weighing in I would have to say that YES- it would be difficult at times to zip it if I felt a call was really out of line ... but, it's also not too difficult to see who is simply occasionally vocal in their protest and who is just yelling because they have a short fuse and can get away with it.

Heck even JRod had to watch a Friday Night game at home not that long ago. Not the end of the world

Interesting fact. Laude Horton Watkins has never won a state title in football, but their high school hosted a state title game in 1972. The Class 2A Championship game between St. Mary's Trojans (Independence) and St. Louis Country-Day School (now MICDS). St. Mary's won 6-0.
Man I miss St. Mary's. Never will forget those great girls hoops games vs. Kearney back in the early-mid 80s. They were something else..........
