I was hoping that wouldn't take the wind out of their sails late in the game with the win within reach, but they powered through! Crazy game, a little bit reminiscent of the first Neosho game in many ways except with double the offense. Nixa was definitely much improved since earlier in the season - I thought they looked bigger and maybe more athletic than Carthage and pretty much impossible to contain, so Carthage really accomplished something to win this game. But likewise, Carthage also seemed to be almost scoring at will and their D stepped up and made some huge plays late in the game.I was upset with Carthage on the first fourth and inches and muffing the punt.
Carthage's mistakes almost cost them the game. They let Nixa back in the game with their mistakes. What a game though! Damn that was alot of fun to watch!
It was a lot of fun!! I was glad to see some you wEBB cITY folks and kids at the game! I haven't been that worked up about watching a game since my son played! Carthage traveled well yesterday! They need the same crowd and energy this coming Saturday! It gives me the excuse to go see my daughter!Had a lot of fun at this game, nice to watch a good game without a lot of skin in the game
IMO I seen 2 even teams! Both came in ready and showed it! Hats off to both teams!Agreed, Carthage looked to alot better than Nixa yesterday.. The score was closer than it should have been, but in the end the better team moves on..
I felt like that too. I've been to a few games at Carthage and that has been my biggest concern for the team is that it seems like they can easily get a lead but instead of building on the lead they tighten up and just try to hold on. I don't know if that is a result of conservative play calling or it's a mental team thing or what. I may be completely wrong, and I don't think every games has played out that way, just an observation from the few that I've been to. They make the plays that absolutely have to be made, still I believe Carthage was well positioned in that game to win in convincing fashion but they tightened up and started making mistakes to keep Nixa in it.Someone mentioned in another thread maybe that Carthage needed to not play to lose. I thought they did and it almost bit them. Ironically it was a lot like watching Nixa in the dome last year. I know you want to put the ball in the hands of your leaders and playmakers but everyone in that stadium knew Darryberry was running some sort of keep just like everyone in the dome last year knew Tyler was doing the same.
No, they don't have a lot of playoff history, though I am inclined to think if they hadn't been stuck in the same district and overshadowed by WC for all those years they would have had some pretty deep runs over the last 10 years or so. They have fielded some very good teams in recent years, and this team has impressed me with their ability to pull out wins even when the momentum seems to favor the other team.carthage does not have a lot of playoff history they're bound to get a little tight some I think they've got a good shot at making it to the dome it would be nice to see
