From what school?Brook Littrell scored her 3000th tonight. She is the 9th girl’s player to reach that mark.
Thanks, I assume she is going to play in college somewhere?Green City I believe
That’s something I do not know. I’d assume so thoughThanks, I assume she is going to play in college somewhere?
Thank you sir, sounds like they're gettin a good one.I spelled her first name wrong. It should have been Brooke. She is going to be playing at Central Missouri.
I've seen her play. You're right.Thank you sir, sounds like they're gettin a good one.
When did anybody NOT keep player stats? I can tell you that Fred Johnson from Wellsville had 3552 points and still holds the boys HS record for points in the state of Missouri. He broke Bill Roundtree's record who was also from Wellsville and he broke Bill Bradley's record at Crystal City. When Fred's coach knew he would break Roundtree's state record he wouldn't let him break the the Wellsville single game record of 62 points held by Roundtree. I think Fred's high game was 58 points. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't find more of a team player than Fred was. How would we know these things if no one kept track of it?One of the worst things to ever happen to high school basketball when media and adults started making a big deal out of the `1000 point level or 1500 points etc...
Kids become focused on the points and can't even enjoy playing and just trying to play for fun or better yet, helping their team win.
And how about let's get 40 points in a game where your team is winning by 40.
All points are not the same.
As adults, we are a bunch of hypocrites. We preach team work and team first and then make a huge deal out of individual stats and awards.

Well Bill Roundtree set the new state record then Fred came along and broke it 4 years later. Bill Bradley had held the record for a very long time. I guess the coach wanted to let Roundtree keep his name at the top of the Wellsville record book for something. I don't think Fred had any problem with that, he pretty much holds every other offensive record there. Kid averaged about 29 ppg for his 4 year career. His senior year he and Robert Ison from Malden were about a 10th of a point apart for top scoring average in the state, right about 32 per game. Both played at 3 Rivers and were very good friends. We have always kept track...but we have not always stopped games and made a big deal out of someone scoring their 1000th point.....or having kids interviewed by the local paper or radio station...or having kids names on a wall for scoring those points.
This stuff is not good for the kids and horrible for the coaches...and is in no way consistent with what high school sports is supposed to be all about.
I would say the same thing about all conference, all district, or all state.
In fact...to point out how crazy this stuff is...look at what Fred's coach did to make sure he did not break the 62 point record? In other words...........if you want a kid to break a record...just let him or her score 100 points against some really weak team. They break the record...but what does it really mean?
I had rather see what their ppg average is in games where the scores or 5 points or less...................point per game average might tell you something....but it might not.
In every situation....it focuses on "me" instead of "team". And you are correct, some players can handle it...but that is the minority. For almost all....it has some negative impact and it makes parents really crazy.

Speaking of Bill Bradley ... Crystal City HS used to display a tribute of sorts to him in their gym lobby, but moved it to their school library from what I understand. I don’t get that. Not many schools can boast having a graduate that was a Rhodes Scholar, a darn good professional basketball player, a US Senator and a presidential candidate. Why “hide” that in the library? Display that for all visitors to see. I’m sure not all who walk into that gym lobby know that’s where this guy went to HS.Very much aware of those players and saw them play both at the high school level and in college....except for Bradley, only remember him as a pro.
Roundtree's daughter started for the Mizzou women this year as a senior. Played a lot the last couple of years.

I once had a parent threaten to sue me because I took his son out at the beginning of the 4Q in a blowout. He said I was harming his chances of scoring 30+ that night and thus a potential scholarship. This was our second game of his son’s junior season.I think we have all heard stories on here where coaches leave players in lopsided games (both ahead and behind) so they can get their stats. I don't know if it is to make the players happy or their parents.
