Knew there were some changes possible with the release of Districts...

Forsyth is Class 4 in Boys and Class 3 in Girls. So, not only do they play in different districts they play different weeks.

I will say again. I think this current method of our playoffs is the best we’ve ever had.

Here are some thoughts.

The 10 point penalty for playing down a class was voted out so I don’t see it returning.

One of the advantages of the current system is that everyone gets to play 10 games, something I understood to be a deciding factor for this system being put into place. Anything that reduces the number of games played may be a nonstarter.

Another advantage is that schools have complete control over their schedules. Not everyone liked getting rid of the old 4-team districts though because some schools have a harder time filling their schedules.

Springfield Central and Russellville have gotten a lot of grief this year for their schedules. However, Russellville just recently added football and Central really fell into some hard times related to their football program. Any situation that grows the sport and/or keeps a program going, I don’t mind giving the benefit of the doubt.

From what I understand, there was a proposal for only the top 4 in each 8 team district to advance with the last 4 playing a final consolation game with no chance to move on into a postseason. It was voted down previously but it seems there is some support for this proposal to pass when/if it is put to a vote again. I don’t like the idea of a point system though that excludes teams in any way.

To me, SOS makes little sense when teams only play conference games.

IMO, the worst method for seeding districts would be coaches making the decision.

Not really proposing these, but here are some of my thoughts on improving the point system:

• Require all teams to play at least 2 games outside of their conference.
• Change the points for a win to 30 from 20.
• A win after a tie in the first extra period is 25. A loss is 15.
• A win after a tie with 2 or more OT periods gets 21 while a loss is 19
• Playing up a class still gets a bonus of 10 pts/class.
• Playing down a class reduces the maximum point differential for a win from +13 to +12 for 1 class, to +9 for 2 classes, +6 for 3 classes, +3 for 4 classes and no points for any win versus a team 5 classes below.

When you forget you have chicken nuggets.

Has there been any talk of Hannibal joining the GAC? Just looking at distances and opponents, I think it would be a much better fit for them. I know it has probably been talked about before, but is there any rumblings of Hannibal going to a new conference? I think the CMAC would be a good fit as far as common opponents, but those could be some long road trips for week night games in other sports.

The sleepers, as this outstanding slate shows, are all being tucked in for the winter and the Championship road is being paved. Picks, per usual, are due by 7 PM FRIDAY. If you do not enter a tiebreak that could eliminate you from a nearly dead certain coming tie for the final EIGHT players who will advance to Round 4.

I think this has the potential to be an all St. Louis matchup of schools that are really close in proximity to each other. IMO, LN & LSN's runs both end in the semi's. LN & LSN are tested to a point in KC, but nothing like ESL or traveling to other states to play top tier talent. Also, nothing against the LSN/DeSmet matchup (both are great teams for getting this far), but based on what the early season results showed from them each playing their counterparts, I think the LN/CBC game is for the drivers seat to Class 6 this year. Either way the Championship game might not be the greatest in Class 6. Both semi's should be great games, just giving the edge to CBC based on not knowing how LN will handle not being the most developed team on the field and potentially looking across the line at someone you have to beat instead of just roll over. I think this was the difference last year in the championship game, IMO.

I lived in STL for awhile but not there long enough to understand the school system. Why are the private schools so much more dominant than the public schools and how can so many stay afloat with such low enrollments? I’m assuming many of these athletes are on scholarships as well. We have private schools in KC as well but they are much more spread out between MO and KS and the public schools retain their talent for the most part.
I was always told in STL the two questions you get are “Have you been to a Cardinals game lately?” and “What high school did you go to?” Don’t know if that if that is somewhat true or not.

If LeBlond were to stay 8 man next year, with Princeton dropping that moves Lexington down to class 1 I believe.
If Duchesne somehow gets enough points that they have to move up a class, that could make a second team drop, which based on current enrollments would be Lathrop.
Next after them.... Lafayette County. May God have mercy on all the Class 1 souls.
Then again... Summit Christian may continue to drop down with the success multiplier.

Princeton voted to go 8-man at their board meeting last night. Details still have to be worked out, but what I am hearing is that they will be playing 8-man next season and will play a full GRC schedule.
