Ugh, scary that Boyd and Thomas from Cape Central were only sophomore and junior respectively this past season. Gotta deal with that duo in Cape's backfield again!

Carthage's highest ceiling player wasn't (but should've been) all state last year. He'll be one the next 2 years.

I remember when Fort Osage played Cape in the C5 semi's two years ago......their VERY young talent was impressive and I knew they'd be a handful to deal with for the next few years.

So Carthage has 3 and Webb has 1.
I noticed that as well.

Webb City has some pretty outstanding younger kids coming back. Their freshman team struggled though, for whatever that's worth. I'm told it's a very talented group in spite of a somewhat poor showing as a FR team. I'm interested to see how they do in Mac's 2nd year.

Saw Webb City Freshman one game last year. Was not overly impressed. Not a ton of size up front, QB was not very good. Rest of the skill kids were pretty good (no huge standouts). Defense was physical but not great against the pass.

They have the size...we'll see if their team speed improves
I could see Carthage being very good next year but like you say they need to get faster. They will largely have the same group of kids on the field and that group, while finishing with a very respectable season also had the lowest offensive output for a Carthage team in a generation. Defense was pretty solid on most possessions...until a kid breaks loose and runs 70 yards for a TD. I would not be surprised if those types of plays alone accounted for 50% of all points scored against the Tigers last season.

It was just tough to get a read on that group. They went toe to toe with coc champ Nixa and state runner up Republic early in the season. But weren't even remotely competitive against Joplin and in the district championship. They didn't beat anyone in COC by more than 14. Granted the COC as a whole was more competitive than...maybe ever.

There is also the current freshman group that is very good so it's possible a few of those kids could add some depth.

Class 4 or Class 5, all those schools beat Carthage in track.

Carthage won state in track in 2018, and won state in football a year and a half later with some of the same kids. There you go.

Apparently Gabe Johnson was hurt in basketball. Anyone know what the injury is?
