This time it's Carlos Martinez. They put him on the 10 day DL but don't think it's a serious issue and did not order an MRI. Instead they just gave him an inflammatory shot. I guess we'll see.

Because the FO says it is very minor, I will predict at least 3 weeks out and then 3 starts of pitching like an injured puppy because he is scared. Should have traded him a month ago! This team is a mess thanks to MO and not MM

Mo is a gelding. He is more of a gelding than any man in sports.

Either make a couple of major moves and go for it or dump some veterans and try to add prospects for the future. But for the love of god, dont just stand pat and finish where we stand right now.

Machado went for 5 prospects, I'd bet the Cards had at least as many they could have offered.

No way the Birds should’ve dealt for Machado. 5 prospects for a rental to finish in 3rd place would’ve been not smart business.

This isn't a one player fix. Offensive woes have been obvious but the bullpen needs drastic help and we can't catch and throw the ball consistently either. If Shildt can change the culture and get the fundamentals cleaned up then maybe they don't need as many changes. But if the bad baseball continues the rest of the year there's no choice but to make wholesale changes. You simply can't be the worst defensive team and the worst base running team and have the worst bullpen and think adding a piece or two is going to make you a contender. For everyone's sake lets hope Matheny had a lot to do with what we're seeing. We'll know in a month or so. Either play will get better or it won't.

Everybody thought having the 'secret weapon' back would fix the defense and the base running but it ain't happened yet. I wasn't suggesting they go after Machado as a rental. If they did trade for him they would have had to be willing to sign him long term too. Ya gotta start somewhere and he was available.

There is a 0% chance he'd ever sign long term in STL. Doesn't matter how willing they were

They just don't hand it out to the right people. Bad decisions that have sunk them further and further from being a quality team.
Ozuna looked like a good deal, the fact that he has become a ground ball guy is killing this offense and I sure haven't seen the GG defense form him. I never thought Fowler was good deal. He was supposed to be an upgrade in the outfield and he is not, the fact that he hasn't hit a lick this year makes that worse.

Money talks, they just won't hand it out.
Price and Fowler disproved that theory. And Machado was never going to agree to a sign and trade, which is the only way the Birds could give up that kind of haul for him.

You guys rant about the deals the Cardinals do NOT make then give all the reasons why they could NOT make them. Just exactly what do you want them to do?

My fault, meant to say Heyward and Price. Not Fowler. Heyward and Price both seemed to accept lesser offer to not sign with the Birds. The Fowler deal was awful from the beginning. I never liked it from day one, and said as much on here. Heyward going elsewhere was a blessing. I was pretty meh on the Ozuma deal too, but truthfully didn’t give up much. Typical MO dumpster dive that didn’t pan out. The offense needs major help, just not sure how they do it. Renting Machado wasn’t an option. I’d obviously love to see them throw a huge deal at him, but I’d be shocked if the Birds were even in contention for him.

I see that 'very minor' oblique issue with Cmart ain't so minor anymore.
