Wong talks too much. Beginning of the year he is telling everyone he can lead off. Now he's called back up and telling reporters he is an all star 2nd baseman and CF.. As I type I'm watching the Cards choke another game away. If they do it will be the 3rd great start they pi$$ed away.
Adios boys not when, if ever I'll return:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Say what you want, but this team had to have meetings during the spring about attitude and work ethic. That was a clear sign.

We have our 2ND baseman in center. Called up because it was his t shirt give away night. Our shortstop at third. Third baseman on second. And our beginning of the year clean up man is in the minors. Holliday wasted tons of time working out at first base.

Does this sound like management had a good plan?

Our 2nd baseman that was moved to 3rd to make room for Wong was moved back to 2nd base. We have better options at 1st than Holliday.

Mo signed Gyorko to platoon with Wong at second. This was not the plan. We have not made good resource allocations. We have a mish mash. We had better options at first than holliday all along.

You don't 'plan' to platoon a guy that just signed a big contract extension. They got Gyorko because he can play more than one IF spot and hoped he could hit.

Then why hasnt he been playing third or short? Try again Bruh.

Better question would be why Wong is allowed to stay in the game for late inning defense and Holliday comes out. Yadi continues to make lazy plays behind the plate and never sits. (No gold glove this year) MM is making one of his biggest supporters think twice.:eek:

I cannot believe Wong is good enough right now in CF to add value relative to other guys on the roster
Maybe I'm giving MO (directly) and MM (indirectly) too much credit, but I'm thinking it's all in an attempt to get him going to create some trade value. Maybe not for Wong, but it's just hard for me to believe that Wong/Moss/Adams/Hazelbaker will all be on this team much after the ASB. Adams' value has probably never been higher. If Wong can start hitting, his value will no doubt trend up as well. Not sure what it all adds up to, but it certainly gives MO some chess pieces to play with.

Hazelbaker probably belongs in AAA. He's a fringe major leaguer.

I don't see how they can trade Adams without getting a corner position player back. Holliday and Moss are FA after the season (assuming Holliday's option isn't picked up, which would cost $16 M more than the buyout.) They have no other decent first basemen, and they will have an outfield need. When you look at the budget...it's difficult to imagine them wanting to have to sign two new OF and a new 1B. That's really expensive. I suppose you could move a Wong or a Carp, but that diminishes their value since they are decent infielders.

I can see the logic behind trading Wong for an outfielder. He has a reasonably favorable contract. But, on the flip side, the Cards don't have a need to dump him for nothing. They need to find something like the Craig/Lackey deal where they are getting something of worth in return.

Hazelbaker seems like the ideal 4/5th OF'er. Speed, pop, and can play CF. But I get what you're saying, he's more of a AAAA player. Totally get the Moss/Holliday FA thought. I don't see both back, but I don't really see both gone either. No clue what the FA class looks like either...And by no means did I mean a dump move. If one or two get moved, something of real value (like your Lackey suggestion) needs to be gotten in return.
