Joplin gets ejected for Willard. Willard picks up another 15 yarder after delaying the game for 5 minutes. Carthage takes advantage of the short field and scores 1 play later.

This was a weird game. The stats say otherwise but it personally I thought it was maybe Carthage's worst game this year. Willard copied WC and scored quickly on a deep ball to start the game and then defense tightened up at least for awhile. The Carthage offense made some great plays, put up lots of points but for some reason never really looked completely 'with it' to me. Lots of penalties in this game. Willard came to play and those kids weren't interested in giving up while Carthage seemed to have checked out a little prematurely. They seem to be struggling with extra point kicks again, which has been a problem the last few years - miss a couple then make up for it with a high % of 2pt attempt.
Willards drive to end the first half was pretty impressive, I think they completed about 26 consecutive passes en route to a score that only burned about 45 seconds off the clock.
So yeah, it's hard to say they didn't play well when it was a dominating win. It was just a weird game but a good win nonetheless!

Played a lot of football growing up through Jr high high school and college. Have never ever played with a 3 man defensive front line. Willard had all night to throw the ball. No pressure to get rid of the ball.
That all sounds to me like the trials of a team that after the Webb City game isn’t likely to be tested for several more weeks and has a hard time staying locked in.
I’m sure the coaches are preaching to continue to improve and prepare hard for the next opponent but some games teams can come out a little flat. At the end of the night it was still a comfortable win.
And I'm glad of that. Can't give opponents that much time to find an open receiver!
3-4 is a standard defense against the spread. if a defense lines up in a 3-4 against an option running attack they will get mauled but you need more speed on the field against the spread.
A 34 is set to go against an option team plus it can adjust to a spread team.
