It's been awhile since most of the traditional SCA powers have lost in Week 1.
Seems there could be a lot of parity in the SCA this year.
1. Mountain Grove loses 34-0 to Fair Grove
Don't get me wrong, Grove probably wasn't favored in this game, it's just the fact that they got shutout. Grove hasn't been shutout in at least 14 years(probably longer, need realray for this one)
The closest they had came in somewhat recent memory was losing 6-3 @ Branson in 2004
2. Ava drops opener to Buffalo 20-16
This game was back and forth, but just wow. Nothing else to really say about this one.
3. Hayti runs away from Thayer in 2nd Half for 46-14 win.
Rough way to start the season for a team that I believe will be a legit contender for the SCA Championship this year. They play Doniphan this week, a team that just started varsity this year and was almost turbo-ed by Cabool last week. The Bobcats have one week to get on track before the pivotal Week 3 matchup with Mtn View-Liberty
4. Liberty embarrasses Richmond 61-19
This game was a toss-up in my mind but good lord, I guess Richmond has lost a lot of talent from the last few years and props to Liberty on showing up in Week 1, and setting some school records with (another) Acklin under center. I guess we have a new favorite for the SCA crown this year?? The Eagles head to Bolivar this week in what should be a very interesting game.
5. Cabool over Doniphan 40-6
Doniphans first ever varsity game since reviving the program a few years ago. Good win for Cabool from a districts standpoint, because I believe Doniphan is Class 3. Dogs should get another win this week against Chaffee. Coach Mac is back so you don't know what will happen with Cabool this year lol
6. Houston over Sarcoxie 18-0
Sarcoxie lost their centerpiece and #1 offensive output to graduation with Comerford last year I believe. I wanna say he was a 3-year starter at QB?, regardless great win for Houston to start the season they have a very winnable game against Cuba this week.
7. Strafford 50-0 over Willow Springs
I don't know if Strafford is that good or if Willow is just that bad or if it's a combination of both. Could be another long year for the Bears.
8. Salem over St. James 24-0
Definitely not the same St James team from last year, Salem plays Dexter this week.
