Why exactly do the refugees have to come to the USA?

I'm sorry, but who said we want these people? Why do we have to take them? Who is paying for their transport? Why always the USA? We have to police the entire world and take care of everyone. It ain't working.

Alert, Alert,

Someone hacked into Ducks mosports account.

I thought this was a secure sight.

Obviously not, as Duck would never say something like this.

This post was something a ... gasp.... " evil conservative" would say.

Oh, the horror

Actually wondering why we should have to take care of everyone?...... How hateful and unchristian like.

I will pray for you Duck imposter

The refugee problem is one of our bright lights. We rescue a limited number of people every year from the worst situations on earth.

A lot of the people admitted under the program in recent years have been Iraqis who collaborated with the US armed forces who qualify as refugees because their lives are at risk.

What you fail to see is no one opposes helping people in need and certainly not based on them being muslim. What we oppose is taking in people who can't actually be vetted properly.

I'll approach this like some of those approach abortion here on this board. You want these refugee's here, let them stay in your house.

We can't afford to keep veterans off the street or save babies, but sure we'll help people out who are fleeing from their own country like cowards.

Red herring. The people generally supportive of refugees are generally supportive of social programs that support the downtrodden in America.

I have no problem welcoming refugees into my community. Refugees cannot be managed privately, it has to be a public program, because the government controls immigration and it has access to screening data that private sector charities could never get their hands on.

How can you possibly claim this when you see what the politicians are saying??? Even Jeb is out there saying you can't take the ones who are Muslim. He backs refugees who can "prove" they are Christian. Never mind that this would be destroyed in the courts. The majority of the R candidates for President have said something explicit about not taking people because they are Muslim.

Talk about a propaganda victory for ISIS - major American politicians saying only Christian Syrians are welcome in Western society. Gee, what message does that send to disaffected Muslims? We are making innocent people out to be the enemy. We reap what we sow.

I'm sure you have room in your house.

fleeing their own country like cowards? Wow you really are stupid. It is a shame your machismo gets in your way.

Granted the passport was fake, but France is taking 30,000 refugees over the next 2 years. Why would feel that we can say no to these people. If they want to come here, great. The apartment next door to me is empty, a couple could move in there. I have zero problem with it.

France, et al have a bigger challenge than we do. The screening, to date, in Europe is pretty rudimentary.

I beg to differ. I am without a doubt ahead of you on the brains scale.

These people want to live simple free lives but want us to provide it for them, right? Why do we have to fight their wars?

Nice tough guy talk from someone who has never spent a day in his life in a war zone

Easy to send more troops or say these refugees can stay here when it doesn't affect you initially. I'm sure you'll have a different stance when it's somebody you know killed over seas or by a car bomb over here.

Sorry I am tired of funding a war that is going nowhere and helping people who fail to help themselves.

Here is the harsh reality. The more we kill, the more they declare victory. The more they succeed in attacks like paris, the more people they recruit.

Even one of those SOB's kills people or detonate a bomb, don't come on here acting like you're upset. Just bow out.

Correct me if I'm wrong. Our refugee policy has been in place for sometime. fear and scare tactics are so stupid. at least some people are now focusing on the real problem of anybody being able to go as they please with a visa. Now that could be a huge problem

Yes, refugee program has been in place for decades.

Visa thing is challenging because tourism produces a lot of economic output. There is a balance to be struck. That's an example of a program that deserves additional thought, but that thought isn't a blanket end to the program. The US and its allies need to do a better job sharing information on individuals they believe to be radicalized.

Opposition to Syrian refugees is poorly masked islamophobia. These people are fleeing a war torn country. They aren't terrorists. They're women and children in need of our help. If they add a couple bucks to my tax bill, it'll be some of the best money I've ever spent. It makes me sick to hear people fear mongering when the victims of these attacks are people who have been through hell through no fault of their own.

Calling these refugees cowards is really rich, especially from a guy who lives in the wealthiest country in the world, has the most stable government in the world, where rule of law in enforced and where your life isn't in danger day-to-day. Takes a real idiot to make that statement.

"Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breath free"...unless you actually are tired and poor. In that case, stay the hell out. Is that really where we are in this country.

When you are pounded day in and day out with negative stuff that in most cases are false. It becomes very difficult to stay positive.

Extremely well said!!! I can not believe that we have fallen this far. This election cycle has brought out the absolute worst in us as a country.

I agree cow, 99% of Syrian refugees are fleeing a war torn country. What about the 1% that are ISIS terrorist infiltrating our country? How many of those do you want to let in?

How is wanting to address a quantifiable risk, "fear mongering"? Are you really saying none of these 10,000 refugees coming in are terrorists, just little old women and children needing our help?

If an islamic extremist states he is going to infiltrate our country and cut our heads off and bomb the populace.......................and our leaders want to prevent that..................you call it "poorly masked islamophobia"?

I don't understand why this is a conservative vs liberal situation. I would think that we could all agree that we want to keep our country safe. Why then, would we be allowing the very people who want to kill us, into the country?

Once again, I am not opposed to common sense legislation on gun control, taxation, first ammendment rights etc.etc. I realize the country and the world has changed since the founding fathers. Why then do we want to address our immigration by a poem someone wrote 132 years ago?

We have to decide where common sense is. I am all for vetting the refugees as much as we vetted Ted Cruz's dad when he came to U.S. Or how about Marco Rubio's parents.

Having said everything I have said so far about the right thing to do morally - politically, the dems should sit down and negotiate with Paul Ryan to make it look like they strengthened the refugee screening process.

Paul Ryan and a few others are interested in looking out for America. Most of the rest are interested in scoring political points by being islamophobic.

No one is interested in letting people in who are terrorists, but people are interested in alleviating the vast suffering of people who are in a terrible situation. The process needs to reflect both goals.

Paul Ryan will be a good speaker if the far right let's him.

We've been using the vetting system we have now for a long time. To now start screaming that we are letting ISIS in is just silly. ISIS could have and may have been entering this country for as long as they have existed. Our politicians have to grow up and start making decisions that will help this country. If we have anything to fear it is the nut jobs on both ends of the political spectrum Until we vote these idiots out our country is in trouble.

We've been letting in refugees for a long time. Terrorist groups have been around for a long time. Has a refugee ever participated in an act of terrorism?

I'm all for protecting America. Denying refugees does not make our country safer, and worse, it's an abdication of our moral standing in the world. If America doesn't stand as a beacon of hope and a welcoming hand to the oppressed people of the world, what do we stand for?

This is why you negotiate with Ryan - you don't really have to do anything substantive to meet the conditions of his bill.
