Is it

A. The Cubs have demoralized an entire msgboard community.

B. There really aren't many diehards on this board.

C. Every time real fans who watch the games had an astute observation it was branded as a vicious, unappreciative attack on Matheny.

D. VB's refusal to return until the Cardinals actually win a series over a decent team has caused us to give up on baseball and follow the WNBA.

A B and C. And it's nothing against VB, you'll just never get me to watch the WNBA. Otherwise it would have been E: all of the above. Lol.

Blues have had me distracted until this weekend, when I turned my focus to the GSW/OKC series. Will be more on baseball now

They signed a RH hitting minor league outfielder the other day for some cash. Not sure what they want him but they got him anyway.
All the talk about picking up a HR hitter should be silenced, they are WAAAY up the ladder in HR's this year. Pinch hitting has been rediculous. The pitching and too many errors on the infield that have kept them around the .500 mark. That said, I heard the TV guys say the other day they haven't been below .500 after the middle of May in several years so I guess they ain't too bad. We'll see if they can pick ip the pace between now and allstar break and let the Cubbies know they're still around in this division.

And we haven't heard about how horrible they are with RISP for awhile. It's a disgusting .302 which leads the majors according to ESPN. Simply atrocious!!!! Lol. :D

Most of the crying on here by the resident experts was for offense. Opps...

We've become spoiled as Card fans the last 15 years. I like it and hope it continues.

It's pretty hard to maintain a .300 RISP average when your team avg is .268 over the long run. Something has to give.

The D is the real surprise to me, it's shocking we aren't better than this. We have been well below average defensively

I remember like it was yesterday when oldroundballer predicted the Cardinals would be an offensive juggernaut but struggle with defense and starting pitching......

I remember when you said they should have paid a gazillion dollars for a HR hitter. THAT doesn't seem to be a problem and it's not just one guy that you can walk to get around it. Seems like they have several guys that can hurt you at any time. I'd say we wrote Holliday off as 'too old' a little too soon and it looks Molina has somethin left in the tank too.

We just got shut down by a guy with a 5.4 ERA and a 1.5 WHIP and haven't won a series vs a good team yet. But we score runs against most crappy pitchers so it is better than being a Padres or Braves fan I suppose.
.
Now use your imagination. What if we had signed Cespedes and he was playing ahead of Grichuk? We would be at least five games better. Dude has 15 jacks already.

You think 5 wins for a gazillion dollars is better? I'll bet Grichuk will save more games with his defense than Cespedes would.

Wrong. Cespedes is good defensively with a very strong arm.

Gruichk is one of the worst overall CF in the game currently, with qualifying stats

I do not agree. There have been. And there are.
Your best hitter can only get 11%-12% of your team's at bats. To be worth 5 wins over a 2 month period means you are playing like the best two months of steroid era Barry Bonds. It's basically not achievable in 2016.

Cespedes isn't anywhere near the best player in baseball over the first 2 months, he's nowhere near a 5 win player year to date.

A fair amount of that has to do with the fact that CFs have been very good this year. He hasn't been outrageously bad, he's a decent defender and his hitting hasn't been truly abymsal

Typical problem with stat majors.
The impact a person has on others in the lineup can't exactly be measured. Your fifth place hitter is now 6th. Your 8th best hitter may not even be in the lineup any more. A stud power man means they may pitch more aggressively to the man u have batting ahead of him. On top of that it's possible adding a great outfielder could improve all three outfield spots depending on how people are shifted. You can't really quantify these things. Not to even mention leadership in the clubhouse, mentoring other players etc. You can't measure the total impact some people have on a team.

I will go back to the NBA announcer who saw four Celtics shooting around before a game and said "there are four above average basketball players". When Larry Bird came out of the locker room to join them the announcer said "there are five great basketball players!".

I contend that with Cespedes in the lineup and in the outfield the Cardinals would be 6-7 games over. I can't prove it. But you can't prove they wouldn't be. However, I didn't waste time watching the NHL or NBA. I've actually been watching the team play. While we have scored 10+ numerous times, there were close games where Grichuk's inability to make contact really killed us.
