Why don't parents go to games?

A trend I have noticed the past several years is declining and sometimes non-existent parent attendance at football games. In the recent CR scandal, Bill Jackson's mom said she wasn't at the game in Chicago where "Marvin Burkes" played. It is pretty common to see visiting teams with more players and staff on the sidelines than fans in the stands, even when most opponents are an hour or less away.

What are everyone's thoughts?

It’s really beyond me. I don’t think Ozark brought 50 people to the game last week. If nothing else it’s something cheap to do on Friday-night even if you don’t have kids playing

I often wonder the same thing. I think for many people it's easier and more appealing to stay at home and watch netflix or whatever their thing is while their kid does their thing. I often see parents picking up their players after games (various sports) and wonder why instead of dropping off and picking up they don't just stay and support their kid and team??? Maybe they have other kids in other activities and can only be in one place at a time?

Attendance in general seems down every year especially on the road. I could not believe how small some of the visiting crowds at Carthage were this year - even smaller than normal. I've heard the same thing from some of my friends at Webb. I went to a couple away games for Carthage and I was surprised how sparse our bleachers were - a home fan even commented they thought Carthage would bring more people. Their home crowds are still pretty good though unless it's Maple Leaf or the weather is bad.

Part of it is good tradition in the various sports plus a strong, supportive community. Here in Princeton, we usually draw very well in our team sports (we'll see about the new baseball program next spring) at home, and pretty well on the road. Wednesday night, we had 450-500 at our softball team's sectional state tournament game; a bunch came from the Barnard/ Conception Jct. area (Platte Valley, the co-op between Jefferson and South Nodaway), but the vast majority were Tiger supporters.

I think she stated that she was not in attendance because her youngest son was playing the same day in STL.

I could not imagine not being there. But I will say that I have noticed it more and more. When we used to play Springfield city schools, I was shocked at the attendance.

I mean, in this particular instance, STL to Chicago is a pretty long drive.

Beyond that, a lot of people have jobs and can’t just take off work to attend a sporting event.

I think there is a large segment of society that just has no idea what it is like to work a job where you are expected to be there and can’t just leave.

I think there’s a whole world out there of people who get PTO days every year who can come and go and leave their job early or take a day off who just have no idea.

I can go to all the games I want to in life now. But there was a time when I wasn’t attending games on Friday nights for the same reasons many others aren’t.

Webb game tonight had very little fan support. Cold, working, travel. I think the webcast has made it too easy for them to stay at home and watch.

I would never want to miss a football game with what types of things could happen god forbid...you need to be there......however, many parents are probably mad at the coach and don't come...seen some crazy crazy coaching decisions this season my own self......absolute mind boggling really

I wonder if schools should start to charge to Let people stream live Video of games. I think booster clubs should look into this, Bosko thoughts?

There was still probably 200 people there maybe??? Also doesn’t help that everyone thinks games going to be a blowout and not worth the drive

I just don’t want to catch hell from all the other old guys for not showing up. Have one friend who hasn’t missed a Webb game home or away since he got out of the navy in the late 60’s I believe. There is no good excuse for not going
