Why did Branson punt????

I'm with you they shouldn't have stepped off the gas there. The way their QB was beating Webb deep and their D stopping Webb all night they probably should have won there.

Poor use or more accurately, no use of timeouts was also hard to understand. Branson should have taken this one.

Sometimes it seems like people are afraid to win

Sucks for Branson players they deserved that last shot

You just said the way Branson was stopping Webb all night. They pinned Webb back at the 2 with all 3 timeouts. Plus Webb was having trouble holding on to the ball. I think the punt was the right call. Just couldn't get a stop.

I hate to sound cliche but a winner's mentality is absolutely different. Take the risk because you know you with either win or it you'll recover from the consequences. I hope Branson's coach apologizes to his players in the locker room for not at least giving them the chance .

But you're on the 40ish going in. Even if you get stopped you still have to get a stop and use your time outs.

On 3rd down Branson dropped a TD pass . They dominated this game . Webb won on one long run ...a 99 yd k.o.r and a blocked punt . Webb moved the ball well but never had a long play scoring drive. Coach rod said at half both sides of the ball have played consistent. The offense can't consistently sustain a drive and the defense can't consistently get off the field . Hopefully it's a learning experience bc if they play like that next week : Carthage blows them out

Maybe. I'll never know because at this point in my life I don't think I'm going to get a chance to do any coaching. Not something I made a priority in my life.
I have known JRod since he was ten years old and I know what he would have called,,,, ANYTHING but a punt

Onside... figured I would get that in before JButthead...As I said after the Joplin game, want to beat WEBB their Achilles is and almost every year has been the pass..we usually have great line play and usually have some size on it. Always have a couple goofy Lbers that want to hurt you but seldom do we have two kids that can cover a threat at wide receiver. But Branson, this was very surprising. Decided to pass on the steam roller game and took my grandson golfing. Missed what sounded like an exciting game.

Stopping Webb all night??? If giving up 301 yards rushing is stopping a team, then Webb stopped Branson’s passing game with only 309 yards...... Webb had some fumblitis going on ( and it wasn’t the D causing them to fumble).

Great game by Branson though.

Sure Webb drove the ball well but as others have stated they didn't score on a single sustained drive. A couple of broken plays were the only ways Webb scored tonight. It was fairly obvious watching that game that Branson dominated both sides of the ball. Stats don't tell the whole story.

The sky isn't falling in Webb but this was hard to watch as a Webb fan . Branson played great defense and Webb couldn't quite figure them out . As far as the o went ....Branson couldn't run the ball but had alot of big passes ...mostly after their QB scrambled some and broke down the pass rush

Sometimes you have to realize the other team wants to win some nights a bit more than you do. Better team won but not by much :)

I guess that's what it comes down to ultimately. As bad as this game feels it was still a win for Webb. Good teams find ways to win even if things aren't going their way. Excited to see how they fair against Carthage next week.

Ya on a couple of those long passes it looked as if as soon as he scrambled Webb’s D broke their coverage, like they were more concerned about the QB breaking one on the ground.

It wasn’t a wrong or right call but ultimately an unsuccessful one. To be fair, it’s likely the other scenario, going for it on 4th down would have netted the same outcome.

I’d say it was a situation where it was a 50/50 call. Personally, I felt Webb was feeling much more pressure playing defense there than playing offense. I’d opted to go for it on fourth down to press momentum. I also wouldn’t had run the ball after that last huge pass play, the real mistake made in my opinion.

Typically underdogs win by pressing momentum and being bold and not by making conservative calls. Betting that Roderique won’t find the answers and motivation for his team on that last drive was one is a wager I’d not made.

Good to see you post again. Always love your insight.

Since when is showing confidence in your defense not a winner's mentality?.. I contend that is exactly what it is. It was not necessarily a bad call, it just didnt work out in this case.

Tough call, if they would have held and scored to win the game it would have been greatest call ever

dont understand that at all
I was at the game. Branson's defense had been doing well to stop them and had Webb city pinned at the 1 yard line. A saftey would have tied the game and Bransons defense had been in the backfield all game long. I can understand why the quick kick happened.

If there was more time on the clock I could see doing it, but giving the ball to Webb with that much time you probably aren't going to see it again.

Easy to call on Monday huh :)

Both of my kids go to Branson. We try to go to every home game. Branson's problem this year is giving up the big play.

Geez! This sounds like a situation I am all too familiar with. Was it raining at the Webb City / Branson game?
