Now we can start looking towards next year. Of the Show Me Bowl teams or even those that made the semi-finals. Who returns a lot? Will we see some of the same teams next year?

Blair Oaks will return 9 starters on defense, 10 if you include their CB that tore his ACL early in the season and also started as a sophomore, and 5 on offense. They will have to replace their QB and two 3 year starters on the O Line, one being a 3 time all-stater. Also should return what would've been their starting RB, who tore his ACL in the jamboree, as long as they don't move for military reasons.

Lamar loses some great players. But it’s officially time to see if the one of the most winning classes that has came through the school in middle school and as freshman will step up more as a class as juniors. We shall see how it unfolds. Some really stepped up this year on the lines, and a few on offense because of injury to seniors.

Hannibal still has Aneyas Williams for one more year. They also return a lot of other dudes that can flat out play. They will be in the mix if they stay healthy.

MV returns alot they were really young this year was not expecting much out of them but they surprised alot of people, had the lead on Seneca in districts before running out of Gas.

Neosho returns a lot; with the way they play defense, teams are always kicking off to them.
Gave up an average of 54 points per game I think.
Willard scored 115 points against Neosho this season
Willard scored 119 in the other 8 games combined!
Their strategy seemed to be go off the field . Even if that means letting the other team score.

Yeah I expect Mount Vernon and Seneca to be the other good Big 8 schools next year. Will be interesting to see MV and if they take a bigger step

That returning stud RB is key. They are gonna be a formidable lot again. A three-peat is very doable.

Come on, Center, join this league!

Way early but clearly K and Smithville will be the top 2 in this league again as it stands. Will be INTENSELY interesting to see how year two pans out here in KTown. Expectations will be way higher than last year especially come NOVEMBER.

Ruskin is just a shock... I am guessing they have kids walking the halls that would turbo clock the team that is actually out for FB. Tough job to have over there.

It seems like Ray-South is never hurting for athletes....it's just a matter of getting the right coach in place.....i.e. Donohoe and Allie. Looks like Kearney should be the clear favorite but I never count out Smithville.

The Seniors of 17 ( Wilk) were 10-2 in Middle School, 6-1 as Freshmen and had a great run on varsity. Super Class (Beshore/Baileys) was 11-1 in Middle School ( JT Tucker fumbled against Aurora or they would have been 12-0) and 7-1 as Freshmen. Don't forget the seniors of 21 ( Case Tucker) didnt have middle school success but were 5-1 as Freshmen and won a state title in 22. There has been alot of classes who had success in their pre varsity years, and I wouldn't count out next years' seniors especially Loveall, Kish, Ian and Nance..

@Fort80 Doesn't Fort Osage return a lot? I know that sophomore RB is a STUD!

Here is a little flavor for what is leaving and what is coming back... Almost like Smithville, losing O line, QB. But top RB coming back.

All district players: (Underclassmen in bold)
Christian Penamon 12 5'4" 145 WR Fort Osage
Linus Velder 12 5'11" 145 LINEBACKER Fort Osage
Ryver Peppers 10 5'10" 175 RB Fort Osage
Larenzo Fenner 12 6' 175 WR Fort Osage
Landon Lamb 11 5'11" 175 D-BACK Fort Osage
Larenzo Fenner 12 6' 175 RETURNER Fort Osage
Roman Tillmon 12 6' 180 D-BACK Fort Osage
Anthony Thompson 10 5'10" 190 LINEBACKER Fort Osage
Gregory Menne 12 6'2" 210 QB Fort Osage
Martin Dieckmann 12 6'1" 210 D-END Fort Osage
Jayce Kern 12 6'2" 245 O-LINE Fort Osage
Caleb Powell 12 6'2" 300 O-LINE Fort Osage
Gregory Ulberg 12 6'2" 330 O-LINE Fort Osage
Brock Branstietter 12 6'1" 335 D-LINE Fort Osage

We return a couple of really good players in the rb, Ryver Peppers and LB Anthony Thompson(Skylars younger brother) both all-state as sophomores...I think the only sophs on the C5 Coaches All-State teams.

The key will be replacing the 3 year starter qb, Greg Menne, the entire receiving crew and 3 of 4 db's. I think there is young talent coming at wr and db but the backup qb at the end of the year was a freshman. Fort tends to reload and rebuild ever 3 or 4 seasons and I think next season will be a rebuilding year but there is talent.

Supports the common thought that Oak Park will be the pre-season pick as best in C5 in KC. Looks like they are the only team in the conference with a returning starter at qb.

One of bub. Read/comprehend. One of doesn’t mean THE. It means in the mix. Also didn’t disparage any class with my statement. Lamar folks need to settle down a tad.

They're gonna be run first and very tough to stop. All I can say is OP-Staley would be a real BIG TIME NKCSD rivalry matchup in 2023.

I got to see next years seniors a bunch in Jr high. All 13 of them. EVERYONE had to play both ways, and they still had a winning record I think, just lost to some of the deeper teams. MAD respect for those boys. They always played together, had to, and never got razzled. Don't leave out Juarez at Center and Kicker, Dillon at DT and Wooldridge at DE. With the half-dozen sophomores that either started or had meaningful minutes this year, are another 8 or so that will fill in to varsity nicely next year for the good seniors we lose. I have no doubt Coach Beshore and his crew will be in the mix again, as usual.

Who cares what the middle school or JV record was? I think those stats have more to do with circumstance than anything. Good programs utilize that stage and youth football with development as the main goal, not wins and losses. Coach Bailey used to tell the youth coaches each year at camp they had one objective: Just make them love the game, and we'll do the rest when we get them. A HS varsity team success is more the result of blending the pieces you have from all four classes than how good the seniors are. It's fun to watch the dominant Jr high and JV teams get their butts kicked as upperclassmen.
