Valle
Rockhurst
Hazelwood Central
Lamar
Chillicothe
John Burroughs
Blue Springs
North Andrew/Stanberry tie 8 man

I'm sure I'm missing someone. But that's off top of my head.

2003 Kearney The numbers, the performance...most dominant team.
They turbo-clocked every opponent, including in the playoffs. Ask the Webb players from that year what they thought of the team that beat them at home, 43-0. The Bulldogs featured future Missouri greats Brock Christopher and Tommy Saunders...AND They weren't the best players on the team. The only points they gave up were when they decided to give up points, and put in their third string in the 4Q. Granview scored the most points, with the help of Josh Freeman, K-State and NFL Buccaneer/Viking. You know, 17th overall pick in the NFL draft.

Playoff games: Ladue 43-0 (State Title), Webb 43-0 (Semi), Grandview 42-7. (Quarterfinal)

128-7 in the final three games. Show me ten other teams that did THAT their final three games, and I would consider NOT having this team in the top ten of all time.

Watkins Ladue (43-0) State Title Game
Grandview (MO) (55-20)
Grandview (MO) (42-7)
Webb City (MO) (43-0)
Raymore-Peculiar (Peculiar, MO) (42-6)
Hickman Mills (Kansas City, MO) (42-6)
Excelsior Springs (MO) (53-0)
O'Hara (Kansas City, MO) (61-3)
Raytown South (Raytown, MO) (53-13)
Ruskin (Kansas City, MO) (51-0)
Benton (St. Joseph, MO) (64-6)
Central (Kansas City, MO) (77-14)
Center (Kansas City, MO) (50-0)
Lafayette (St. Joseph, MO) (59-14)

I remember ES beating Webb 14-8 in the semifinals in 96. Heart breaking loss for Webb. They lost two fumbles inside the 10 and threw a jump ball to 6'6" Tracy wistrom in the end zone at the end of the game ...it was picked off by a 6'7" guy. ES running back was a load!! Their game winning TD I think he carried 3 defenders the final 10 yards

Good read by Excelsior Springs football history page on Facebook.

Who on that team was better than Tommy?

I was slightly off on my recollection of the 96 ES vs WC game but still pretty close considering I was 9 years old at the time. Webb had their chances but ES was a heck of a team. Enter John Roderique the following year with almost no returning starters. The pigskin preview said " the cards would proud with a 5-5 season." They went 14-0 and throttled north county in the state championship 44-14 after giving up a TD on the first play of the game. That year Webb moved Josh Chapman from wide receiver to quarterback and he went on to be an all american qb at MSSU

1985 Hazelwood Central. Featured the 1985 Parade Magazine national player of the year, Tony VanZant. HC finished the year ranked # 7 in the USA Today top 25.

Hazelwood Central - I don't think it was the same as the one with Van Zant. The one that had the huge fullback/defensive lineman that went on to play in the NFL. Played Rockhurst in the show-me-bowl at Arrowhead in the 80's...

Who on that team was better than Tommy?

Tommy wasn't even First team All-State on Offense.

There running back, James Short, was 1st Team All State running back. Their QB, Benny Palmer was All State 2002-2003,. They had four First Team OFFENSIVE All State players, and players that were First Team on D that probably should have been first team on Offense as well.

First Team All State

QB Benny Palmer 5'9" 175 SR Kearney

RB James Short 5'9" 175 SR Kearney

OL Brandon Dray 5'11" 230 SR Kearney

OL Eric Zornes 6'0 210 SR Kearney

DE Stephen Murray 6'2" 215 SR Kearney

LB Brock Christopher 6'2" 215 JR Kearney

DB Tommy Saunders 6'2" 195 SR Kearney

2nd Team All State

TE Jake Massey 6'3" 190 SR Kearney

LB Keith Hessel 6'2" 210 SR Kearney

If you are thinking about the year they played in the frigid weather that was 1982. Rockhurst had a heck of a LB in that one too. Hazelwood was big and played power ball. Rock was tall and athletic. Rock won that game by a TD. It seemed as if it were Rock and/or Hazelwood every year in the 80's.
We watched Mt Vernon get handled by Valle in '82. Bunch of tough, hard-nosed farm boys got there but were outplayed by Valle's speed and execution. My clearest memory of that game was sitting in fairly close proximity to a farmer (probably a dad) in his overalls with clanging cowbell in hand yelling "GO GREEN!" to the end. Good times!

I guess the '85 Bears wouldn't stand a chance. Lol. If this is by class, then definitely 2003 team not only top 10 but probably top 1 or 2 C4 teams since going to 6 classes. But like Lamar is excellent for Class 2, Kearney has to be kept in C4 context. We can post all of Lamar's or Valle's all-state athletes, but there is no evidence they would have ever even beat the runner up in C6 or top class since 1968. Not knocking the great Kearney, WC, Lamar or Valle teams. They beat the teams they played. Not their fault. I'm also not saying they are the best of all time but I will say: see Parkwood 1980.

They beat all comers...... On the field...... No conjecture.
Not sure what Parkwood enrollment was in 1980 but probably just slightly more than Kearney or WC today. Impressive.

I only posted the roster to show that the two all time greats for the University of Missouri, on offense for Kearney, didn't even make All-state on offense (and four others did.)

James Short did more damage on returns for Kearney than Saunders did..if you can believe that after watching part 1 and 2 of Saunders' highlights at Mizzou.

Yeah, class 4 teams could never beat top Class 6 teams. Oh, wait.. Webb v. Rock. hahah
Did I say that? Of course not. I stated that those teams are very good. K 2003 beat who was on their schedule. Just no objective evidence past that. Again, not their fault.

I can say MC would beat CBC this year. Don't believe it. But I can state it just just as you made your statement. Doesn't make it so. Parkwood's talking stopped when they took the field.
