Which team is most vulnerable to an upset this week?

What do you mean by different kind of opponent?

East Newton plays Monett, Seneca, Cassville.... Ava plays Mt. Grove, Thayer (took an overtime to beat a Class 1 team), Mt. View/Liberty, etc. - not the same competition.

Didn't Ava almost beat Lamar the last two years? Now I'm not saying the SCA is as good as the Big 8, but Ava has done just fine the last two years against one of the Big 8's best, if not the the best team.

That one is definitely in my tossup column. Here is one that should not be but may bear watching because of recent history:

William Chrisman at Raytown.

The past two years Raytown has lost to Ruskin and Belton respectively. IF they break through and win just one I think they may revenge Fort and give Staley all the Falcons want in the quarters..........................IF.

I'm going to pick big upsets (IMO) one per Class, I wouldn't take these to the bank but if I was in an in office bracket challenge I might make these picks to better my chances of winning, after everyone else's brackets bust.

1: Cole Camp over Lincoln
2: Richmond over Lathrop
3: Logan-Rogersville over Buffalo
4:Excelsior Springs over Lincoln Prep
5: Park Hill South over NKC
6:Rock over Liberty North

The SCA as a whole has presented problems for Lamar throughout the years. A lot of really good MVL and Ava teams. But Lamar usually comes out on top. I actually think last year was Ava’s year to get past Lamar.

#1 would be a monster upset as I think the talent disparity between those two rivals is huge. #2 is one I think could be a bit closer than many think but still would go solid Mules. #3 I flat out don't know those two teams so no comment. #4 a lot of emotion on Lincoln Prep's side for tragic reasons plus they are, on the plus side, probably the biggest success story in KC this year BUT this one is a tossup. #5 I actually favor PH South after what I saw last Friday night at Raytown on TV. #6 would be absolutely CRAZY to think Jones could be the HC who ends Sev's long, storied career. Rock will have lots of trouble moving the ball vs. the LN defense mark it down. Could be lower scoring but the Eagles should prevail.

I've seen Richmond and I've seen Lathrop, just do not see this one being close without several Lathrop turnovers

AVA - East Newton, coming from the Big 8, is a different kind of opponent than they're used to.
Overall I think you are right, I get where you are coming from. But we are looking at the very best in the SCA vs a team (although you can see marked improvement) near the bottom of the Big 8.

My comments might be misconstrued as disrespecting the Ava Bears. As you point out, they've come to play every time they strapped it on against the Tigers, so there is definitely no disrespect intended. I guess I'm just saying that, as a whole, Big 8 teams have a stronger strength of schedule during the course of the year than the typical SCA team. I'm just saying, don't rule out the Patriots.

I think Richmond is definitely talented enough to pull of the upset, but they are probably still a year a way from making a real run.

For Lathrop, it will be the first test by someone outside of their conference, which is way down this year. .

I actually disagree in one sense: Mid-Buchanan is nowhere near down this year.

no, but they're no where near a top level class 2 team either.
Mid Buch would give Richmond fits, and a down Lawson team would as well. I'll be here if I'm wrong about this, but they are not ready to play with Lathrop.

I am hearing that Richmond is well coached, improving, and has an athletic QB. Going to Lathrop and taking down the mules in their house? That's a big order.

Now, I will have to say, I have not SEEN Richmond in action. I've seen Lathrop though......

when did Lathrop become such a juggernaut? in the last 10 yers they have only beaten 1 school from a bigger class, that's hogan.

I really don't know anything about then except that they have never stepped up in weight divisions and won like the truly elite small class schools.

I guess we will find out these next 2 weeks.

I don't know if people should classify Lathrop as a Juggernaut. But I do know that Richmond over Lathrop is just not happening.
