When overzealous PA announcers go a bit too far...

...and attempt to be cute/funny while an opposing player is injured and writhing on the field in pain.

This week's edition features St. Dominic of O'Fallon. After a quarterback sack, the PA guy claims the defender was all over the quarterback "like a bum on a bologna sandwich" while the player is obviously injured and medical personnel are headed onto the field.

Nobody came to the game to watch/listen to you, buddy. It may be time to dial it down a few notches.

Video link is at the 1 hour and 58 minute mark of the broadcast HERE .

Not overzealous but Joplin's PA referred to Carthage as the Bulldogs for the first quarter and a half of that game.

Especially when MSHSAA requires PA announcers to "play it straight" during postseason games. Guy has no class.

PA announcers are dumb, just announce yardage etc, no need to get cute, no need to add a personal touch. In fact I would be fine without any announcer

I always thought Chillicothe's PA guy did a great job... nice voice, just the facts, played it straight all the time. Was sorry to see him retire after last year. He was one of the good ones.

There are some great ones that donate a lot of their time and put great effort into it. But there are some who think they need to be part play-by-play announcer and part comedian. It's annoying and at times, unsportsmanlike. Just read the MSHSAA announcements, tell people where to go when it's lightning, remind people not to smoke (or where to go to smoke, at some places), and tell who makes the tackles.

I always asked the PA guy to say, “Great call coach. Come on boys, execute the play”.

Last week at the Carthage/Springfield Catholic soccer game, Chavez deflected a shot attempt out of bounds and the Catholic announcer stated that he was "taking bullets to the head" with that shot.

Let's see here: Idiot announcers at Catholic schools. Do I detect a trend? No, because the guy at Maysville is almost as bad (only without the violent references).

I disagree. Good PA announcers give you the facts (who carried for X yards, who passed to who for X yards, who made the tackle, down/distance, who scored, who called a timeout and, most important since a lot of fans don't know the signals for penalties, what the penalty was and what team they called it on) and nothing else. Up here at Princeton, our PA guy has received complements from the officials for his straightforward, non-prejudiced way of doing the PA.

I can agree with this, its either this, or don't say an f'n word.

I have seen some games were the Refs are Mic'd up. Is that something the school does and provides the equipment for the Refs, or do some crews just do it.

I sort of like it because the refs give you the correct call.

They used to mic the ref at Reeds Spring, its been a while. But you are right, it helped with knowing exactly what the call was

I’d love to hear it, but I’m not about to do anything to help that slimy worm Mark Zuckerdork.
It's as bad as others said. It was so odd. The crowd had already seen it was a bad injury and had gone silent when he went for it. He immediately yelled time out on the field, like he hadn't seen he wasn't getting up until just then. Then you can hear a few I assume Marshall fans give him the business.

Probably already done, but at minimum he shouldn't do another game this season.

If that happened here, he might not have finished the game and sure as hell wouldn't have called another game. It happened here once. Not as disgusting as this clown, but plenty bad enough.

Would be interesting to know just who gave him access to a mike. They definitely need to revisit this and start fresh next year or mute the mike.

Kind of sad if it was just Marshall fans that gave him the business. Listen to the professionalism of the actual broadcaster on the air and contrast it with the PA announcer at the game.

I can't believe anyone at St. Dominic or anywhere else would want to be associated with this, but what do I know?

Some people just like attention and will do anything to get it — be careful what you wish for, however. This guy sounds as loud and ignorant as a Honey Boo Boo re-run.

No place in high school sports as far as I'm concerned.
