will a new conference be formed? Helias( 916 w/ multiplier), Jeff City(1,250), Jeff City New(1,250), Battle(1,378), Camdenton(1,297), Rolla(1,273), Waynesville(1,627), Smith Cotton(1,466) and Lebanon(1,466) would make sense. You could add Hickman(1,660) and/or Rock Bridge(1,866) if they needed. Not sure why a conference has not been formed. It is not like most of them do not play each other anyway and several are in or will be in the same district.

I can't imagine we (Camdenton) would get out of the OC...BUT...I'd be all for this if you'd drop Battle. Eight schools, relatively the same size in Centralish MO. Sounds good to me. Here are the problems...
  • Aforementioned issue with Camdenton and OC
  • Can't see Columbia school joining a conference and not the other two
  • Will Jeff City actually ever split? (I have serious doubts about this ever happening)

Rumors are already out there that a football conference of the two JC's, Sedalia SC, the Columbia schools and Helias will be happening in 2020. Not sure why the wait, unless it gives JC 2 the opportunity to reach its first year of varsity football before its starts. It would give the schools 6 football games and 2 out of conference games that allow for continued rivalries ie. Helias vs Hannibal.
I wonder if the other schools mentioned in the earlier post were asked or if they declined.

Jeff City splitting into two schools is a done deal, it's happening. The new high school opens for the 2019-2020 school year.

Suppose to, but no ground is broken yet. It will happen and projected to be the 2019-2020 year. We will see if thats the case. 2019-20 will have 9th and 10th graders only at the new school. Add a class each year after that. Will make things awfully interesting. Helias will no longer be the Rival game. Can you imagine if all 3 (jeff CIty original), Jeff City (New) and Helias end up in the same basketball district? Let the fun begin!

I'm with you. I'll believe it when I see a shovel in the ground.

Yes, it passed last spring. So, once again it's happening.
The final names that the new high school will be called are either:
Mission High School, Stoneridge High School, or Capital City High School. Should find that out soon, as the voting ended Wednesday night.
If you go on their website, you can see the everything you want to know. The old high school will also have every square inch remodeled and also be expanded as well.

Just a guess, but I doubt the other three mentioned (Leb, Waynesville, Camdenton) would be interested. Geographically it doesn't really benefit. For instance Camdenton, the Columbia/SC trips are essentially the same as a Springfield trip. JC trips are pretty much equal to a Waynesville/Rolla/Lebanon split. Waynesville being the equal and the combo of Rolla/Leb being equal to two JC trips. Only true benefit for Camdenton (in truly a mileage tunnel) is we wouldn't have to make a trip to West Plains every other year. Now, with that being said, if I had a vote the new conference would get my vote. It'd mean I'd never have to ride a bus to West Plains again! Lol. Unfortunately, I don't have a vote...From a historical/rivalry viewpoint I can't imagine Camdenton would want to split from a conference that includes Leb/Waynesville (and I think the same would apply for those two schools).

I like 8 team conferences (hey, I'm a hoops coach...it's the perfect conference tourney setup). I like bright shiny new things. And I hate riding a bus to West Plains. A lot. Plus those other potential new trips are all straight up 4 lane highways, except SC. Sign me up!

Thanks for the link! In all seriousness, couldn't be happy for the residents of JC and the students. Long overdue. Any clue on how this will affect the numbers at Helias?

Needs a haughty name: Cresthurst or Chadwick...Sidwell or Cambridge-Exeter

The Creshurst Falcons
The Chadwick Knights
The Sidwell Battalion
The Cambridge-Exeter Golden Eagles

Damn, is it boring after the season is over. Now I'm making up school names and mascots.

Tell us again your thoughts on bus rides to West Plains.

I mean, they're not really all that bad.

Oh wait...

They freaking suck! And I hate them!!!

Nothing against the good folks at West Plains. To be fair, I'm sure they're equally as unhappy about the bus ride to Camdenton. Also, I can't stand the bus ride to Marshall or Joplin either. It's not really West Plains as much as it is long and/or curvy rides. Funny, 18 yrs ago when my average trip was 30 mins and my body wasn't as broken down, I didn't mind those rides at all.

What is basketball? Is that what people who can't wrestle do in winter? Shoot hoopies?
Bee-Tee-Dubs, Honcho...Hoops is what athletes do in the winter. Rather than rolling around on the ground with another man, scantily clad, putting digits where no man should put digits on another man. But yeah, hoops is what we do.

Helias has already joined the AAA conference out of St Louis..The start conference play nexr fall.

I would like to see a new conference with 2 JC's, Sedalia SC, Columbia Schools, Hannibal, Camdenton, and Waynesville. Hannibal has a history with the JC's and Columbia Schools. They deserve a stronger and competitive football conference.

Camdenton to Hannibal 2 hrs, 42 min
Sedalia to Hannibal 2 hrs, 43 min
Waynesville to Hannibal 3 hrs, 4 min

Don't see it happening.

Gimmie all but Hannibal! You can keep that bus ride.

I say keep it small to start. 2 Jeff City, 3 Columbia and Smith Cotton. All Class 5 and 6. Gives a lot of flexibility to schedule OOC games (which is apparently a big deal to JC). Columbia supposedly has plans to build another HS in the next 5-10 years as well

Hannibal to the new Central Missouri Conference would be interesting. I wonder if the NCMC would make a full out play for Southern Boone, Blair Oaks, and Centralia then?

I have heard we could get out of that easily after 2 years which would be perfect timing for the start of a Jeff/COMO conference. Love to see it happen!

Hannibal would be a interesting team in the New Central Missouri Conference if it happens. I have heard rumors that the NCMC might be in it's last year if Kirksville, Mexico, and Fulton leaves.

I have heard Mexico and Fulton would like to join the Tri-county but it doesn’t seem that conference has any desire to expand past 8 teams. What’s the rumor on Kirksville?

I have heard Fulton might be going to Tri-County, Mexico and Kirksville going to cannon conference. I guess all 3 teams wants to play teams around their area that's why's that want to leave the NCMC.

I know that Fulton and Mexico are a package deal and have talk about the Tri County. Problem is Tri county does not want to expand and if they did it would probably be North and South Callaway.
I really hope the cannon is not an option. Don’t see the point on joining a conference that you are twice the size of the next biggest school

If Hannibal wasn't in the NCMC, they could expand easier IMO. They are the hold up school. If Hannibal doesn't join up with in the new Central Missouri Conference, maybe they should look at Gateway with the westplex schools.

My understanding is Gateway doesn't have any interest in Hannibal but I feel it would be a great fit and the travel up 61 isn't that bad

It already unofficially happens in the middle school, so why not save scheduling time and make it happen for the high school level.

I think Southern Boone and Macon would be good in the NCMC
I'd like to see So. Boone and Blair Oaks myself. I thought the conference was going to make a run at Helias and Father Tolton but with the talk of other schools wanting to leave the conference, I guess the chances of landing anyone seems slim.

Helias would be very unlikely considering the conference voted them out a number of years ago.
