The student that studies hard and excels, should accept taking the small increase so the lazy kids in the class can get the same credit as them?

Can't help but to believe this article was more about promoting Climate Change to those who are obsessed with it, (vs) bad choices people make on polls.

I think you missed the point.

The student who is smarter still gets the better grade. The reward for hard work exists in this class just like in the real world.

But, he adds a wrinkle. In the real world, many goods and services do not distribute well on an individual basis. Collective decision making results in more efficient outcomes.

further, market based mechanisms can and should be used to the extent they can help. For example, in California, the water problem could be helped by charging more for water (reflecting its scarcity.)
