A couple of interesting reads from VEB. I think I'm on board with the Moss/Piscotty (Piscotty as 4th OF'er too)...IF...they can get something of value from Adams. Maybe a really serviceable MIF backup option. Packaged with Lynn for a young MIF horse and some colorful packaging???

My favorite part

Finally, let's face it: all the platoon scenarios require creative thinking and an ability to balance competing imperatives on the part of the manager. I'm not trying to be snarky, or criticise for the sake of criticism, but honestly, have we really seen anything from Mike Matheny that suggests he would be able to manage that level of creativity and flexibility?

I giggled like a school girl on that one too...but also realize how spot on it is. Sorta like getting Ben Effing Zobrist (VEB guys nick for him, they love him). Their theory is that's why they haven't pursued him before. Jokingly, of course. Well, sort of.

OK I agree with your concern with Matheny Ducky but they did win 100 games while sustaining more injuries than most teams. Piscotti, Grichy, Pham, all got a solid taste of ML baseball. MO is responsible for the roster constuction, so he has to share in the blame. I believe that MM is the right person for the job, but as most of you know I'm right maybe 50% of the time. I will say right now that if our # 4 hitter is someone who is on this roster today we will be in big trouble and that will fall on MO not MM. Probably going to need a starter also.

Agreed. The $12.5M seemed crazy low to me. Certainly a lot lower than most thought it would be.
As much as I love the Cardinals they do most things based on metrics and once they come to a price level they will go no higher. I think this was done by closed bids so it is interesting that the Twins won the rights. They have not been known for spending money. Anyone know what the Birds offer was?

Don't think those bids are made public. At least until the negotiation period is over. Obviously it gets leaked, but I think MLBs only statement was that the Twins won the bidding rights.
